The misses and I (and lab) went for a drive to Oxfordshire today and after getting on at J10 south I saw a pretty rough moment in my rearview mirror.

About 3 miles into the motorway I moved from lane 3 to 2 to 1 as the next Junction was a few miles up the road from where we needed to turn off. Shortly after, a few cars behind me, I see a little red Ka with a couple of girls in it move from lane 1 into lane 2. Unfortunately, at the same time an Audi A4 was moving from lane 3 to 2, slightly ahead of the Ka. This must have put the Ka into his blind spot as the girl driving the Ford got about half way into lane 2 and swerved violently back to lane one to avoid the Audi who was also partially into the lane. Cue a very big tank slapper sending the Ka into the central barrier and spinning it back across to the hard shoulder. I can't say for sure but I don't think I saw any indication from either car but certainly not the Audi to my recollection.

I really hope the girls are alright as it's a momentary lack of awareness everyone has done. For whatever reason, she didn't see the Audi until it was next to her and panicked.

I pulled over on to the hard shoulder and called 999 and the Audi in question pulled in about 10 meters in front of me. After I finished the call with the very professional chap on the phone, what does the Audi driver do? He fks off down the M40 again like nothing has happened. I joined the motorway a few seconds after and got along side him to see what state he was in but he looked utterly without a clue what had gone on. I couldn't believe it. Thankfully I'd already given his reg to the emergency services so hopefully he'll get picked up for a chat on leaving the scene of an accident.

I've been scouring the news tonight for any reports but so far nothing so fingers crossed.

Drive safe.

Did you see that those girls had got off the carriageway and were safe and unhurt? It was just an accident but the Audi driver had a moral and legal responsibility to stay at the scene.

I'm pretty sure they were off the carriageway but I was about half a mile up when I came to.a stop on the hard shoulder. I saw all 3 lanes moving so didn't think there was any obstruction. All of this was relayed in the 999 call. Too far to tell if they got out or were unhurt. With the impact on the barrier I'd say they'd need some attention.

There was a fire engine speeding back down the A34 so hopefully it was for them.

Hi, was googling to see if there were any details about the crash. Red car had 5 female passengers, 1 teenager and 1 little girl. They were trapped in their car in the middle lane and their lights weren't working. I stopped because of my medical background and was basically the first on the scene. Had to get the scared little girl out the rear window first (thanks to the cars driving in the slow lane as I was trying to do that!!!) then grandma got out complaining of back pain. The rest were ok, minor injuries. We immobilised the grandma to protect her spine on the hard shoulder, little girl was having a nose bleed. I handed over to ambulance crew and police asked us to leave.

I'm sure they'll all be fine but will still keep googling.

Are you sure you're talking about the same incident - how do you get 7 people in a Ford Ka!

Because of the posters bad grammar.

If I have 5 apples, 1 large apple and 1 small apple, how many apples have I got? 5, 6, or 7?

5 passengers would indicate there must be at least 6 people in the car as there would have to have been a driver. A little girl couldn't have been the driver so that makes 7.

If the grammar had been correct then I'd have know it was 5 female OCCUPANTS, INCLUDING 1 teenager and 1 little girl.

Imagine reporting the accident and saying "There were 5 passengers, 1 child and 1 teenager" - you'd probably have the emergency services looking for a missing driver, child & teenager!

Stop being a dick. You knew exactly what he meant.

He's discussing an accident, this isn't the lounge.

The reason I posted the comment, was because I genuinely thought he was claiming there were 7 occupants in Ford Ka, and would have meant the Ka was well overloaded.

If I've read it incorrectly due to the poster's bad grammar, then it's hardly my fault!

I like that the main issue was about my grammar and not the fact that there was a major accident with casualties.

I'm writing this message on the phone, my main aim was to inform the OP that the "occupants" we're ok not to document a grammatically correct narration of my experiences.

So surely logic would kick in and tell you that it MUST have included the 2 special mentions in the 5. It only took you 11 minutes to be able to reply saying that it was down to bad grammar.

I get this PH "look at how quick I am" jokes in the lounge, but in a topic about a car crash, where young and old were hurt. You're better than that. Take a minute to think about what you post.
