Exactly. I can happily be alone without being at all lonely.

As a 22 year old, I do not see this as ghey at all. It's awesome.

Enjoy your time away.

It's odd how blokes think they are indispensable to their wives - almost as though their wife needs them loafing round on the sofa to be waited on. wink

My wife takes the 2 kids to her sister's for a late holiday every year - Center Parcs, Isle of Wight etc but I don't like spending money on rainy interludes in the UK and it all seems like fairly hard work so I stay home.

In return, I have, in the past, taken my daughter, from a prior relationship, who we see every weekend, abroad for a long weekend in Spain. However, when she suddenly mutated into a teenager, she no longer wants to do that. Wifey wouldn't take the kids out of school so i suggested I go alone and she positively celebrated the idea. No long weekends, predictably, so it was a week in Gran Canaria in 33 degree temperatures in januray for me and it was great as I actually enjoy being Billy No-Mates.

Ironically, we did take the two out of school at the end of April for a week in Spain (now she "needed" a holiday) and we had pretty mediocre weather so next year I may not be so lucky.

A lot of people don't seem to get the perfectly happy alone thing.
That's because the majority of people of extraverts, and society conditions us to believe that extraverted characteristics are somehow preferable to introverted ones.

OP, no need to justify yourself - what you are proposing represents the perfect scenario for many people.

My lady has just come back from Thailand, with the youngest daughter.

2 & 1/2 weeks of just me the dog, a couple of horses, Oh & my daughters cats I had to mind, & my cars. I was in heaven.

I am always given the impression that it is somewhat antisocial of me to go for a hundred & more kilometers drive at night, just for fun. The fact that driving, or being driven at might is to her a chore, may have something to do with it. A drive to nowhere is the last thing she'd want.

I am only a few Kilometers from a lightly travelled road through the boarder ranges, & they call to me quite often. They just need a nice car driven moderately quickly to share their night.

I couldn't go over night like our OP, with all those animals to feed, but each of the cars has had a good workout that's for sure. Have a ball OP.

That sounds like great fun to me!

I am 20 and fortunate enough to have lots of great friends, but I do value time on my own and would love to do something like this smile

Sounds absolutely brilliant. I'd love to do a solo road trip around Europe one day. I've been more than tempted on occasion to take a trip from Essex to Scotland on a long weekend by myself, mainly to enjoy the great highland roads there by myself. Maybe I will on the next bank holiday smile

Are you the same guy who had a knee injury and made a thread about being incredibly bored a few months ago?

I often do Euro driving trips solo... I've gone in groups and with friends before, but it's a different kind of trip.

All the best drives I've had have been on my own as I get to pick where I go and how long I drive for... in groups it can be pretty hard to get everyone out of a hotel at 6am to do a run over a mountain pass before the caravans start!

Suspect you'll come back with a new-found appreciation of both the car and guitar... always nice to share experiances, but some are quite personal and other people along for the ride dont always share the significance / have the same mindset on the day.

Enjoy.

Unsure where this goes, several forums could claim it, I'll try here in the lounge.

The other half recently went to Eurodisney with her sister and my niece. On her return I said I could do with a break myself after some recent health issues and fancied taking a guitar and going on a little tour. The car only has 2 seats so if the guitar is going then the girl ain't!
To my surprise she said yes, I should do it.

So I'm sitting here now in the Holiday Inn at Folkestone ready to take an early train to France tomorrow.

Won't be any coke and hookers involved, just some spirited drives, decent wine and playing the guitar in some isolated spots.
I'm sure to the younger guys here this will sound pretty ghey, would anybody else rate this as worth doing or would you rather take the missus or a mate?

This is what I'm going in:

And this is the guitar, a nice loud little acoustic:

I'm amazed at the great response to this thread, thought it would die on the vine so to speak. Great to read others experiences and thanks for all the support.
Spent the day driving down to the Loire, stopped off in Angers to wash the road crap off the car, god bless the Blue Elephant!
The car gets an amazing response in France, even more so than at home, I've heard "Magnifique!" many times today.

Drove out a little way and found a beautiful Chateaux hotel:

I'll drive into Nantes tomorrow and try and get a picture of the car with a bottle of beer on the roof, don't think they do Birds custard here! Any requests?

Yeah, please don't put a bottle on the roof!

Amazing, cheered up my Sunday and reminds me I must work harder/smarter

I'll use a beer mat!
Working harder I'd definitely agree with mate, but if you ever meet me you'll know smart has nothing to do with it!

Great thread, please keep on updating us!

While I've got no doubt that a convoy or trip through Europe with friends/OH would be great, a drive out alone sounds even better in some ways. Very jealous.

Although I don't have an other half, a little solitude is great.
Reminds me of my last week away on my own. Might take the Elise this year.
