Peugeot 106 Rallye: Spotted

Harris needs somebody to buy this mint 106 Rallye so he doesn't have to

Right, I neither know nor care if this first appeared in my inbox, on my Twitter feed (thanks @B4tty) or on The Thread, but either way it needs publicising. This not down to any feeling of public duty, but because unless someone else on here buys it, I will, and I do not have the space to be hoarding any more Gallic tat.

Low miles, seemingly un-chavved and tempting
Low miles, seemingly un-chavved and tempting
There is nothing more I can tell you about this wonderful little machine than the fact it is a proper homologation model. Like an E30 M3.

It simply doesn't work unless it is being manhandled and, much of time, it can perform trailing-throttle oversteer which would make an early 911 Turbo seem manageable.

But I'm not saying any more about it for fear of getting myself into trouble. Instead, I propose that whoever buys it does so soon, and then posts a quick history here on why it is so special.

I'm off to do anything other than buy a 106 Rallye.

Spotted this a couple of days ago to and posted it up on here

Agree with PT82 (is that name inspired by a Piper camshaft btw) needs big provenience to be worth the big monies

something about the under bonnet shot does not seem right to me. Why is the slam panel so damaged?

In fairness I think it's just about worth the asking - this is probably the lowest-mileage car left now, and is in pretty tidy condition save for a faded interior. Unfortunately it's not been kept very dry given the light corrosion under the engine bay - no doubt there's a bit of rust underneath as well!

I can almost smell the Peugeot-plastic-on-a-hot-day aroma from here, and hear the engine fire up at the first turn of the key. Perfect for nipping around some narrow lanes, dodging sheep and dry stone walls. Very tempting, would love that!

Great little cars. I had a 1.4 XSi back in the 90s. Same 100 bhp, but not quite as hardcore. Still a buzzy little thing, mind

I remember it fondly. Once you tipped it into a corner, the throttle had as much say in the direction of the car as the steering wheel did. The unassisted steering had bags of feel. The pedal box was so cramped you could almost press all three pedals with one foot, and you had to rotate your right foot sideways to push the throttle to the floor. Never could get it to idle smoothly (they all do that, sir). Nothing went wrong with it at all in the 18 months I had it.

Just remember that lovely lack of inertia on turn in that you can only get with a car that weighs under 900kg.

Ah, I did wonder, turns out PT82s are for the 2.0 Peugeot lump as featured in the 306 Rallye

http://www.larkspeed.com/index.pl?p=66PT82&a=i

You could purchase a Rallye and fit said cams (they're pretty aggressive so it'd need some headwork)

It will impress the ladies when you tell then, I assure you

I cross linked it from 'the thread' to your twitter feed as I though you ought to see it hehe
I'd love an original S1 but most seem to get the VTS engine 'upgrade' which tends to spoil the idea of the car for me.
Glad it was of interest.

Looks alright to me, just a bit of surface rust and a few paint chips. Seen as much on any painted surface that's had a few tools dropped/set down on it over the years.

Where?
Seems to be chips and rust patches, even under the VIN plate if you zoom in.

That one looks lots of fun but being a 1998 car will need the catalyst putting back in to pass an MOT under the new rules.

No, they didn't cost that much new. At the time Peugeot couldn't get rid of them - nobody really wanted a stripped-out screamer - and a Chiswick dealer had a whole pile of them for sale at £7300. I know, I bought one.

£1 per 1 rpm on an S1 - worth every penny!!

12,000 miles is low - I think Mark who runs the 106 Rallye Register *may* have an even lower mileage white S1 though.

I still really miss mine. Even though it's got a turbo'd 16v in it now (and to be fair to the guy who owns it is absolutely mint) a very big part of me wants to buy it back and stick in the 8v engine I had planned to build when I was 17 (stroked 1294 to 1360 & lairy cam). It's still in my parents garage 7 years later! Superb little car.

Ahh my first car! A cherry Red S1 Rallye.
Still miss it to this day! Ran mine fully stripped out, with a pugsport pea shooter exhaust that buzzed like a bumblebee! You needed to really rip the a*se off of it up to 7000rpm to get it to go anywhere, but once it came on cam it was fun!
Awesome, awesome car. They just don't make 'em like that anymore!

In line with inflation, both the S1 and S2 were £16,500 New.
