I'm sure that this has been done to death, so sorry.
On my way home from work this morning, there was a cyclist in front of me. Clearly he was a V.I.C as red lights didn't apply to him. Nor did he feel the need to use the marked cycle lane either. I don't hate cyclists, but if they want to be treated the same as motorists, then should they not adhere to the same rules and laws?
I know some will say it's fine for him to go trough a red light, and maybe it is, but I aren't so sure.

Who the hell thinks cyclists want to be treated the same as motorists? Isn't the whole point of using an alternative to the car is that you're not the same as a car?
I hear it all the time that cyclists want to be treated the same in terms of respect on the road etc. The ones who don't go through red lights will always get my respect. The ones who go through pedestrian crossings that are on a red or a red light and mines on a green and I've almost collected them (has happened on several occasions) don't get my respect.

Haven't we been over this? Cyclists want to be treated as motorists where it suits them to be, and differently when it offers them some advantage. For balance, I imagine some motorists would like cyclists to be treated the same as them when they perceive cyclists have some advantage ("road tax" for example).
Having said the phrase "road tax" in a cyclists thread, I will calmly walk away from PH for an hour or two.

Some cyclists are dicks, some drivers are dicks, the common factor is not the type of vehicle, but the type of person.
This, this, a thousand times this.In short, some people are dicks

Its not compulsory to use a cycle lane. Most are death traps.I know some will say it's fine for him to go trough a red light, and maybe it is, but I aren't so sure.

It's funny because in my 35 years of driving, cyclists apart i've been watching on average 10 cars a month go through red lights (and I suspect you have too if you'd notice). The ones who go through pedestrian crossings that are on a red or a red light and mines on a green and I've almost collected them (has happened on several occasions) don't get my respect.
My circumstances have changed recently and I'm now doing far fewer miles than I've ever done in the past 30 years, but I'm still easily seeing 10 cars at least run red lights per month. Yesterday I saw a car set off through a red light in full view of the police car behind me, who did nothing.
Then there's the tens or hundreds of motorists who I see run amber stop signals - this is totally prevalent, often against traffic trying to turn right. It used to happen to me so frequently at one junction where I needed to turn right that I changed my route.
Despite all this blatant ignoring of stop signals, by motorists and cyclists alike, I've still yet to see a near-miss. I've seen the occasional aftermath of a failure to stop, but amazingly no near-misses. Even the occasion when a 4x4 sailed past me and other stationary traffic and straight through a red light at speed didn't result in a near miss.
Yet I come on PH and find someone claiming to have had several near misses with stop-light jumpers, but only of the two-wheeled variety.
Are you in London?
I don't quite know what you mean about giving or not giving respect respect, but I hope you accept it's ok if others do the same whenever you're not obeying the law, such as not sticking to 70 on m'ways, perhaps.

He did not have to use the cycle lane.
