Yep, cart springs in the rear

Since everyone seems to be loving this so much, has anyone actually bought it yet? Seems like a case of want being bigger than wallet. I think this is one of those novelties that you can chuckle at for a minute when you realise someone has actually spent money doing it, but to buy it off him? You'd have to be mental.
Why? If you are looking for a road-legal drift car that isn't just another generic Japanese coupe then it fits the bill perfectly. And, unless the builder is immensely proficient with the spanners and happens to run a parts business, it would undoubtedly cost more than the £2000 to build.

Some of us have a varied taste in cars - so yes we may like this - but we are not obliged to buy it.

I mentioned this previously on another forum im on - but if I was to buy every car I liked - id need a big massive aircraft hangar or similar to house them all.

And winning the lotto would be helpful biggrin

Ha, love these, I dont even mind the awkward looks with those wheels on, I would expect it is a complete animal, 200 bhp doesnt sound much but I rememer a mates 740 turbo which had a decent turn of speed with the standard 180 bhp, it was likened to the millenium Falcon as it was silver, a bit scorched, a bit of a shed, prone to electric problems and could do the Kessel run in 12 parsecs, well, Angelssey in under an hour from Warrington. So, in a much smaller car, must be epic.

I have driven a few of these, we had a company hack 360 GLT and that was a drift car before drifting was invented, if anyone knows the big roundabout at Bredbury, near Stockport, I managed a full sideways lap of that one happy, wet, Tuesday afternoon.

last one I drove I tried the same thing on the trading estate where the Volvo specilists I had left my T5 with for some work was, this was their discourtesy car, an utter bin and as it transpired no tax, I tried my old skills and sure enough it went sideways, very sideways and I managed to bounce it off a kerb biggrin tough though, no damage to report.

If I recall....the marketing blurb made a big thing of the gearbox being mounted over the rear axle (like a Porsche) - I bet to drive, it's quite well balanced........

Had one of these, standard carb'd 2l GLE with a welded diff. Skidded a treat in the dry and the wet even with 100BHP. Always wanted to turbo it, probably be a good laugh, but ended up getting a jap money pit instead...

Perhaps £2k is a bit steep.

My folks had several 340s when I was a kid, both 1.4 and 1.7 so I have a bit of nostalgia for them. I do really like the 360 GLT hatch, in black, and hope someone somewhere has saved one or two rather than knacker them drifting! I thought they (the GLTs) looked quite smart. The saloon though? Er, no!

Loved my 360 GLS, 1983 model year. Drove like a tank.
Funny how expectations change. At the time, it felt quick, luxurious and well equipped!
This looks utterly fantastic.

No mention of...

When i were a lad in the early 80's there was a doctor who lived next door - used to get a new 300 series every year on the 1st Aug...

He knew i was into cars, and i remember him being very excited at the launch of the 'Volvo Sports Car' (his words) in 1985....

i think he was refering to this

Love this! Back at uni I used a 360 GLT in a national B road rally - absolutely epic on mud/gravel but the brakes were woeful and I ended up limping to the finish after they faded to nothing. It later transpired that the seals on the rear cylinders melted under the heat and the front pads had started crumbling away. Good fun whilst it lasted though. In fact I liked it so much I bought another later on as a daily driver and did it up with a few period add-ons which looked great (IMHO of course!).

Actually - I was in a 300 series twice - thinking back - can't believe how smooth they were for something on leaf springs. Its not that they set new standards - but they were way ahead of anything else ive ever being in with leaf springs.

Would be an absolute laugh to have someone in a modern turbodiesel that they think has a bit of power come up againsed this machine which looks like Grandads old car - and see the turbodiesel owners face when this old Volvo takes off from them and leaves them behind biggrin.

I mean biggrin - a 2.0 TDI 170 weighing about a tonne and a half up againsed this with more power in a lighter body (I assume). Bye bye 2.0 TDI biggrin.

Without that, no C30... I remember seeing my first C30 in the flesh and thinking 480 Turbo, like someone living close by to me had. Understated, love-or-hate looks - I remember thinking how different and futuristic the 480 looked in the late '80s, whereas I regarded the C30 as a poor pastiche with no room in the back.

Volvo 300 series on the other hand, not for me, tack. Even a drift-happy one with an engine transplant.

I love them!

My car, so I guess I should chip in. Thanks for all the comments!
Some great, but some really have amused me though....

Especially the ones baffled as to why on earth one would ever want to drift such a car, or run a welded diff!
As I have a very ambitious twin turbo competition spec drift Capri build in progress (see Classic Ford magazine for more on that!), I used it as a stop gap drift car, taking it to several events, and running it on the road too.
And as so many RWD cars I've owned they've happily run welded diffs daily. There really is nothing to be scared of, and they're not even a moderate hassle, let alone a 'PITA' as some said!

Devil2575 said:
Hate it.

Sorry, but it's as ugly as sin.
Personally I think 90% of cars made post 2000 are ugly as sin with their typically bulbous MPV looks.
The 360 might be no Fiat 131, but it's a million times better looking than anything made now!

Worth every penny because 'there's a new crankshaft seal...'
A serious job to get near that seal! Most of the drivetrain out for that! Yes, certainly worth a mention!

V8 FOU said:
But why a welded diff? Good for hooning, but a PITA for everday driving. Jeez, these are arse out cars as stock = so keep the open diff.

Like the idea of a T5 conversion tho'
Because drift car wink

Why spend £2,000 when a standard 360 (or even one of the boggo spec 340s) will wag its tail on demand?
I was wanting a bit more than for it to "Wag it's tail on demand"!
If I could have got away with a standard one on track I would have saved several thousand pounds and done that!
Lack of power, handling, decent fuel system, etc etc. See the huge list in the ad for more details.
It wasn't just all done for show, lol!

Sir Fergie said:
I on the other hand love it biggrin, yes they are not everyone's cup of tea - but much more interesting then a modern 2.0 turbodiesel saloon.

And to be fair - the 300 series as a motor vehicle wasn't such a bad thing in the first place - imo.

Sir Fergie
Nail on the head! smile

Drift with an open diff, almost die then see the point. Welded diffs are fine in dailys, I've run them for years. Plus LSDs are bloody expensive and are normally worn pretty bad too. Welded diffs are predictable, the best thing you could possibly do to a drift car
Exactly!

And a car enthusiast who can see no redeeming features in a car like this just plain baffles me!

Jesus! It's only been on here one day, and for sale a few more!
(do have 3 people seriously into it at the moment, just waiting on who will put a deposit down first).

Agreed, love em!
One of the most amusing parts of driving this is blasting away from clueless types who were giving it aggression!

200BHP/tonne with short gearing and a responsive turbo makes for a very quick little package!

I think you might be getting confused.com with the models.
