These are not acceptable in any situation at all.

You'd have to be a major cretin to even think about wearing these boys.

confused

I always thought driving in any flappy footwear like flip flops was mental, and even moving the car around on the drive I don't like being barefoot.

However, I bought a pair of crocs last summer for mooching around the garden/washing the car. They're actually very comfortable and don't fall off like flip flops. I'm quite happy driving in them, no different from shoes.

I quite like leather deck/ boat shoes for summer driving.

Ok to wear without socks, grippy sole and breathable.

Old fashioned leather shoe with leather, not plastic, sole will be more comfortable than these tupperware abominations (or any other type of sneaker for that matter) as it lets the foot "breathe".

Just drive bare foot. I've been doing it for years and it's only been the cause of a couple of accidents during that time!

Wasn't told that when I trained to be an instructor many years ago.

I drive barefoot all the time, quite regularly for 350 mile trips, love it, so much more feel of the pedals than with footwear.

And as for Crocs vomit

What do you wear when you're on holiday, strolling on the beach of an island in the Indian Ocean, or climbing a rocky outcrop on the coastline of East Africa? Doc Martens? Don't be so fking silly.

Just wear old trainers and some ankle socks.
Or buy a cheap pair of boat shoes.

Wouldn't even wear crocs for a bet hehe

Driving with crocs is fine, no different to any other footwear. A regular for me is Calais to Malaga and in the summer always drive in them without problem. Far less sweaty than more enclosed footwear.

The first time I ever saw a pair of Crocs was in the Porsche dealership in Stuttgart... A bloke wandered in off the street in shorts and a pair of red crocs and, to be brutally honest, looked a complete and utter tt...! biggrin

You could almost see the entire sales force rolling their eyes and thinking of ways of avoiding having to go and speak to someone with so little taste in apparel that they would probably want to order a sky blue pink Boxster, with orange spots smile

Did I mention, I will never ever be seen conscious, with these hideous plastic shoes, with holes in them, on my feet!

I'm telling you, a pair of these, some nice pastel coloured jeans, a RL polo shirt & if its chilly out, a nice knitted number draped over the shoulders. You'll be the toast of the riviera bowtie

I'm wearing mine right now seeing as its such a baleric Cumbrian evening & cutting quite a dapper look if I don't mind saying so myself
I think a pair of those blue or white ones should come free with every Boxster purchase.
smile
Would you be expecting the rest of the sailor's outfit to?

I don't think any bloke should be wearing Crocs let alone driving.

Please tell me you are not considering Crocs in the first play. Some decent breathable trainers would do no? You will look like a grade A in a pair of crocs, especially as they step out of a Skoda (not everyone will know its a VRS)

Just wear your normal shoes FFS and stop fussing! biggrin

You're not climbing Everest and 200 miles a day isn't that much.

I find they hurt the back of my foot after 4-5 hrs. Lightweight comfortable leather shoes every time for me. If you have A/C your feet will stay cool enough anyway.

I have some really good deck shoes, they even have a 'rolled' heel, to make heel and toe easier smile Also, Rockport Adenauer more formal shoes are brilliant for driving - they have 'trainer-design' soles and a rolled heel and can be worn comfortably without socks.

RAC Verdict

Driving in less than practical shoes – or no shoes at all for that matter – is not illegal, but you have a responsibility as a driver to uphold standards on the road.
If your selection of footwear hampers that, you’re putting yourself at risk.
I regularly drive barefoot as I feel I have a much greater control of the throttle, brake and clutch barefooted

It is not illegal as such, I asked a traffic officer a couple of years ago, though he did say that if he thought I wasn't in proper control he could base it down to me being barefooted and it would be prosecutable (if that's a word) - if I got out the car on an unrelated matter though and my driving had been of a good standard he wouldn't deem it worthy of mentioning

Take a look at Sanuks.
There are flip flop soles with a canvas shoe upper.

Fantastic lightweight footwear and good if they might get wet or sandy or you want to wear shoes without socks.
