I assume that's picking up on my comments from yesterday.
I think you, like a number of people on this thread, are missing my point. That probably means I've not explained it properly.
The point I was making was that, as you acknowlege, not all law breaking is acceptable. Some is and some isn't. My question was "where do you draw the line?". The reason this is a difficult question is because everyone has a different idea of an acceptable risk, and what's acceptable to one person is unacceptable to another.
I'll try to give some examples:
So since different people have different opinions on what's acceptable risk and what isn't - how do we determine what's OK and what isn't? Who will some posters 'wish death upon' (!) If you don't use 'The Law' then what do you use? Anything else seems a bit arbitrary.
I understand your point. If the line is going to be drawn between acceptable and unacceptable you have to draw it at the law, otherwise why is your judgment more valid than someone else's? What I mean is, laws and the punishments for breaking them have generally been formed by society according to what people believe is acceptable and how unacceptable the unacceptable behaviour is. Gladys doesn't believe 75mph on the motorway is acceptable but you can currently do up to 77mph without even getting booked going through a fixed speed trap. A police officer in his car will turn a blind eye up to at least 85mph as most people believe that speed is acceptable. The government is now insisting the limit be raised to 80mph. The law is adapting to what most people think is acceptable even if a minority disagree with it. I think you, like a number of people on this thread, are missing my point. That probably means I've not explained it properly.

I'll try to give some examples:
Activity | Glady's opinon | Laws opinon | Jo Average opinion | Some PHers opinion | Guy in video opinion |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Overtaking at 60 in a loud car | Unacceptable | Acceptable | Acceptable | Acceptable | Acceptable |
Doing 75 on the motorway | Unacceptable | Unacceptable | Acceptable | Acceptable | Acceptable |
Getting a dab of oppo | Unacceptable | Unacceptable | Unacceptable | Acceptable | Acceptable |
Getting fully sideways in a town centre | Unacceptable | Unacceptable | Unacceptable | Unacceptable | Acceptable |

Drive at 95mph and a few people will find that unacceptable and whilst it's not very dangerous driving at that speed has been shown to be a contributory factor in many accidents so you'll get a fine and points on your licence.
Drive down the motorway at 120mph tailgating and overtaking on whichever side you see fit and more people will be alarmed and angered at your behaviour, more people will take to the Internet to write irate comments about you and statistical analysis shows that you are increasing your chances of harming yourself and others beyond what they are at lower speeds and so your punishment will be greater.
The fact so many people here are alarmed by his behaviour even when they push the boundaries beyond what most people would believe is acceptable doesn't show them to be hypocritical, it shows just how bad this guy's behaviour is. Society forms laws and the punishments for breaking them and even the part of society represented on Pistonheads which has a pretty liberal view on speed and spirited driving believes this guy went too far.

This guy's not dead IMO, but I'd not be surprised if the cops were getting close to him and he's tripping to avoid 20 years in prison.
This was my first thought too. No matter where in the world you are, there's only so far you can get away with taking the P out of law enforcement before they actively target you. I can imagine the cops somewhere like Georgia would probably do something a bit more serious than putting you in a cell with a known man-raper for a few hours if you habitually made them look stupid.. And of course there are some pretty heavy underworld types out there as well - who's to say he didn't dent the wrong person's limo or cut up a hearse carrying the corpse of a respected mob boss? Of course, all the really juicy interweb comments that might shed some insight will require interpreting. Seems a bit fishy that such a 'driving god' would allow himself to be ferried around in his own car by someone who would stack it into a tree even when sober. This guy's not dead IMO, but I'd not be surprised if the cops were getting close to him and he's tripping to avoid 20 years in prison.
ETA come to think of it, the similarities are quite stunning. Attention seeker gets offed in high speed motor accident.

What has his driving got to do with his death?
He drove like dhead. He is now dead, (or is he?) It's therefore, on balance, a positive thing, as he was a liability to others. It doesn't matter if he crashed himself, got run over by a bus, or died on the toilet like Elvis. He is dead, and because of the way he lived his life, most will think, 'good riddance'.
Just the way it is.

That's the one, 2 worst bits are green van pulling into his lane and going between car and coach with narrow gap. Police Camera Action narrator would collapse with shock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnXMx__wlJU

To do this, there is a specially equipped area where the child does not suddenly jump out onto the road. He got something that was going. I'm not insulting him, I'm just glad that he is not picked anyone else.

What if he had run down a school trip or your Mum or Dad.
Silly . End of.
Or, what if he'd led a political party that ultimately took the world to War? Or massacred a busload of children? Or ate kittens??Silly . End of.
End of!
What Ashley said was clearly relevant as it as a forseeable risk of driving like a tool. What you said not so.

Never noticed this thread the first time around. That m5forum attracts them doesn't it, they had similar a few years ago with some 18 year old borrowed his dads m5 and was posting about it on there, then wiped out himself and 4 mates.
I remember that. He was an American wasn't he?I remember that one, there were a few threads before the accident where a few people were concerned about his attitude and ability and asked him to be careful.
The thread were they put it together is here.
