Sounds like you should have taken the roof panels off for that drive? biggrin

Here is my beloved:

Biscuit factory by danjama, on Flickr

Just ticked over 106k. Every drive is smile inducing.

I would love to go on track with her but i'd be terrified of binning it or something breaking frown

Just wondering, can anyone who has driven an NA and Turbo, give their opinion on whether the 'fun factor' is dramatically increased when going to the turbo? Or is it not enough difference to warrant the change?

Fasntastic little car, nice read. Can I ask though that you refrain from flashing people out though..

As a driver and a biker I have been on the receiving end of someone flashing another out and it ended up with me breaking my femur in 6 places, destroying all the ligaments in my knee and breaking my left elbow because the driver who was flashed automatically though it was safe to exit their junction without looking. Flashing according to the highway code is a warning and not a "come on out bro". Flashing implies that its safe to manuver without carrying out normal checks.

Actually, the one at fault there is the driver who pulled out. I was taught (by a senior BSM instructor) that it is perfectly ok to accept a flash from someone as long as you still apply as much observation as you would normally to pulling out of a junction - and that likewise, for anyone you flash, the onus is on them to decide if it is safe to go ahead and accept it.

Loved mine - I had a mk 1, then an early mk 2 turbo (fettled a bit and went hard)... To this day it's the only car that I have spun (3 times) whilst going 100 km/h in a straight line (albeit a bit damp) when I hit the loud pedal a little too aggressively... Scared the s#*t out of me! I learned to respect it shortly after...

I never said the flasher was to blame airbrakes, yes it is the responsibility of the driver that is pulling out to make sure the coast is clear but unfortunately this does not translate in the minds of a lot of drivers. It appears to them as "its safe lets go so we don't hold anyone up" Whether or not your senior BSM instructor has told you it's their responsibility it still goes against what is said in the highway code. The only appropriate time to flash ones lights it to warn other drivers of a hazard. I have many friends in the police force and a number of them are advanced drivers all of which have said to me that if they are to let someone out, they do not flash, wave them or anything because of the consequences, the politely sit there until the motorist cautiously makes their own way out the junction. Flashing or waving implies that everything is safe for them to just come on out without making the normal precautionary checks.

You should definitely get more than 155bhp out of a Rev4 unless you mean at the wheels?

My rev3 made 172bhp when it was standard and noticeable chunk more once I had advanced the timing. smile

had a rev3 NA and rev2 turbo, great cars and cheap to run (apart from petrol costs in the turbo).
Luke @ Pacific works is THE guy to go to if you're in London/around london areas. I've moved on to Porkers now because i'm lazy.

I can't say exactly but I can tell you that 70mph should be exactly 3000rpm.

In my NA I used to sit at around 60-65 so I could hear the radio though. Yes I stayed left rolleyes

Always liked the MR2 (aside from in this baby blue colour). I had a Rev3 Turbo that was fantastic.

Nice to see a poster I've followed in the threads appear on the front page. It's good to see some posts on letting people out of junctions. I look forward to reading the updates and seeing some video from the Nordschleife.

Brilliant car OP, I did exactly the same as you a couple of years ago, buying one as my first sports car at 19, same year as yours just in a different colour. Strangely my radiator was shot when I picked it up too! Lots of fun, lots of comments from friends still driving fiestas and clios. Took it down to Le Mans last year and was fairly deaf on arrival after 6 hours of T-Bar out driving. I (shamefully) didn't keep it standard like yours, and ended up bolting on a Mongoose Exhaust and BBS wheels. Just sold it for an S2 Elise, which is great, but I do miss those pop up headlamps. Enjoy!

Just out of interest, would there be any adverse effects if the spoiler was removed; I think they look cleaner without one?

Edited by 205alive on Monday 8th July 11:08
I don't know for certain, but I know that the spoiler created a lot of turbulence (No s*** Sherlock eh?), just by the fact that a mate of mine was riding his motorbike behind me on the motorway, quite a way back at about 70, and he had to move into the next lane due to buffeting. Also the front end has a tendancy to get lighter at motorway speeds. Neither of these prove anything, but I felt like the spoiler was actually functional rather than just for looks... I remember it being quite twitchy sometime too, but not sure if it was just mine. Replaced all the dampers and it was still the same...

Loved it though! What a car!
