Do I fit in it?
Do I like it?
Can I afford to buy it and run it?
Is it brown?

If answer is yes to the first three and no to to the fourth, its a contender.

I just buy whatever 300bhp/ton recommends
Me too, hence my 17 Corvettes, 2 Oldsmobiles and an Issetta Bubble Car. I was only looking for a transit van! wink

To be fair, actually I do use these forums for some general advice and 300bhp does give some interesting ideas.

For my last car I got lots of peoples opinions from here and also read contempary magazine reports on the ones that appealed most. A few test drives of varying machines helps but this is something I feel VERY awkward about doing in someone elses pride and joy.

In an ideal world there would be a giant lending library with 1 of each car ever made in it which you could go to try before looking to buy your own!

Cars are bought with the heart, not the head.

I ask myself a simple question:

Does it have more horsepower than my last car? Yes/No.

Budget - can I afford it?
Meerkats - can I insure it?
Economy - can I afford to run it?
Spares availability, cost and repairs - can I afford to fix it when it goes wrong?
Does it look nice?

Do I like it?

Buy it. wink

I did not, it is a reference to welshbeef's thread, but used here, in a different thread, providing readers with the joy of getting an 'in joke' or what could possibly even be considered a 'callback'
