And I must say it did look good. Website quotes over 250mpg and a price of £30,000 including dealer and government contributions. Is his the future of motoring?

As much as it pains me to say it, they do look good in the flesh.

Should read Ampera. Can you really get this sort of MPG? 250, seems incredible and there are used ones for 25k.

Ha ha. I understand your sentiment. But the world moves on and this seems to be a good leap forward that will appeal to many. Imagine 250 mpg that means at 10, 000 miles a year you would use £20 of petrol A MONTH!

And it looked good.

Had a good look over one not long ago. The styling is good but it's a 4 seater only due to the configuration of the batteries. I'd have one, but for that money I can have an Aston instead so the enviroment can suck one till they reach reasonable money.

There must have been some sort of sponsorship deal for that new Simon Pegg film, because there were about 6 of these around the filming at Letchworth. Maybe they made it into the film in some product placement way.

They look OKish. Nowt special IMHO.

For a production plug-in hybrid or whatever category it is placed under, it looks pretty good! Ok, so there are snazzy concepts which may look better as a showcase of design and technology, but what GM has done here can't be criticised too much. smile

They're Astra based and do turn in decent MPG if you can plug them in every night - even better if you can plug in at work.

Couldn't really see how they'd make a great private purchase - but if you can get an Ampera or Chevy Volt (same car, different spec. levels - the Chevy offers more for the same money) as a company car, it really is a no-brainer as BIK tax is virtually nothing.

They are on astra under pinnings. I was at GM when they started making them. Lovely motor, very clever and very stylish.

The hybrid trickery bits are actually not bad, as long as you stay within the electric only range. However, the rest of the car is catastrophically rubbish unfortunately.........

I almost got run over by one the other day (quiet bds), looked pretty good in the flesh. Company car wise they make sense, leaves more money for a V8 biggrin

How does that work, then? - the engine is only there as a generator, as I understand it - so exceeding the electric range won't actually make any difference to the way it drives - other than being able to hear the engine.

Jay Leno claimed to have done 11,000 miles in his Chevy Volt on the first tank of petrol. Seems pretty ideal to me - all the benefits of electric without the range anxiety.
