Ford should get TurboTechnics back on their books (as well as Cosworth) and the 35bhp upgrades being offered (even in these modern times) would just be a drop in the ocean smile

The Fiesta now has 320Nm with a Mountune kit, Renault are simply in a losing battle in the UK.
Wouldn't be surprised if the gearbox was the limiting factor in the Fiesta as well. What's the official Nm figure for that box? The 320 Nm for the tuned one is only in overboost, right?

Nevertheless, both kits sound like good value for money as are the base cars. Especially the Fiesta looks like an excellent package in Mountuned form.

This should be offered as a new order option for both cars, unless it already is and I'm being stupid :P

The upgrades are purely aftermarket so that the CO2 emissions and therefore VED band of the cars are unaffected.

love the sound of it all on paper but, correct me if i'm wrong, there's no LSD right (!?)

great having all this power but with no traction - deal breaker.

A Fiesta ST with a fully warrantied 215bhp (similar power, torque and weight as a MKI Focus RS) for £17,594.
Now the Clio looks really overpriced.
Well said
Looks like Ford is giving Renault a lesson on how to do it. Right product, right price, tuning options, competitive deals and finance and enthusiastic dealers supporting the product. Maybe thats why Ford have sold a years Fiesta ST production allocation in just 3 months.

I think the new Fiesta is a cracking car, not so much the Focus as it's such a dogs dinner IMO.

However one thing is for sure Ford are getting it right on the price and how their cars drive (Have done for some time now)and with a warrantied Mountune upgrade they will only get better.

A sound business model that appeals to all levels of hot hatch enthusiasts. Onwards and upwards for the blue oval.

A fair point that I didn't think of, cheers!

I am seriously tempted by a Focus hatchback in black, drove one and thought it was great and with the first kid on the way somethinga bit bigger is going to be needed soon enough! I'd pay a visit to Mountune with it for sure.

Had a little sit in the new Fiesta ST at FoS and it felt 'just right'. Lovely Recaros, driving position, ergonomics. With the Mountune Kit too it should be a fantastic car to own.

....and they gave me an orange ice lolly too biggrin

I have the Focus, and traction is not an issue, if anything it grips a little too well to be fun at legal speeds on UK roads.

The torque vectoring really does a good job at dragging you out of corners.
mattr26 is right. You say your Focus ST is great out of corners - have you driven a mk2 RS with an LSD as opposed to compromised software? That would clarify things for you. I think the Fiesta would probably be fine at 215 PS but much higher and it will get unruly - just like the Focus ST I drove...

Haven't driven the Fiesta ST upgrade but everyone who has here at sunny Dunton Ford research center says it's an absolute peach. To be fair though the base car is pretty damn good.
I have borrowed the tuned Focus ST though and that is definately a riot. I didn't think the change would be so noticeable as the headline peak power figure isn't that much of an increase. It's all about the torque though and the remap and associated hardware turn it into a flipping rapid car. Even at 50mph in 6th it pulls hard...in 3rd and 4th it can get you into trouble very quickly! I found the torque steer was reasonably well contained and I only found it squirmy when using wide open throttle and pulling out to overtake on a cambered road..then it got a bit fighty but still, with the amount of torque being transmitted through front wheels, it's quite an achievement.
I'd also say it's reasonable value considering the hardware and also the fact the warranty remains intact.

Unruly? I must of driven a different Focus ST to you, because the one I own and the one I tested never feels unruly and yes I do like to feel the roar. Megane completely agree as a track car, handling is sublime and a good LSD systtem but it's not built as a comfortable every day car like the ST is.

Also I like my cars a little unruly, I'm shocked at how civilized modern Hot Hatches are.

My daughter loved the ST stand!

The staff were really friendly and having a sit down in a deck chair with a free ice lolly on the top of the viewing platform was a real pleasure. A very simple, cheap and effective bit of marketing. I thought the Fiesta looked good inside too, I don't think there's anything out there that competes for price at the moment. I didn't even go on the Renaultsport stand as the Clio's looks were repelling me and they didn't have ice lollies.

Dont get me wrong im not knocking either car, ive read the reviews and im sure its a hoot i was just casting concern over traction/drivability thats all.

My current car (a megane r26) which is LSD equipped and 230bhp in std form has a hard enough time getting traction in say second in the wet and exiting roundabouts on wot, i can feel its borderline braking traction and thats 230bhp and an lsd. i just feel with a car with this mountune pack is going to be too much for the front wheels and ruin its overall handling.

Im not being bias but the meg 265 (with lsd's) laptimes speak for itself. My partners dad owns one and that has no issues with traction anywhere ive been with him.

I just wonder with a car with 20bhp more and no lsd...

Christ i drove the new shape astra vxr, lovely car but jeez apply any power in second/third on a slight bend and it was squirming all over. I even applied wot on a bend in second in the astra that i take flat out in my r26 and it tried to spin the inside wheel! And that thing has an lsd, how would the focus cope!?

I never feel like the ST is out of control, it tugs slightly when your going for it but it's hardly noticeable. As a potential longer term investment, (2 - 4 years) I'm not going to dump the clutch at 5K and see how it fairs with traction. The MPS is far more unruly, but no where near the handful some of the critics make it out to be..

Well I'm going in for the upgrade anyway, so can report back. I like crazy cars like TVR's anyway, so if it becomes more of a hooligan I'm looking forward to it..

The latest hot hatch of choice was between the 208 GTI and the Fiesta ST. But now it looks like Mountune may have solved the dilemma.
