Great vid, best i've seen yet on the AMG, of which i have a vested interest as i pick mine up in September.

The AMG totally fits my brief and was hooked after the test drive.

It's funny you mention the Evo as they keep waxing lyrical about the Bhp per litre of the merc & it's Bhp & at first I thought they are good results out of a four pot but then I remembered about both the Evo's you have said, the japs were leading the way a long time ago.
I would guess the Merc doesn't need to be serviced every 6,000 miles though.
It's a fair point, I used to hate that about my old 200sx & I just thought it was excessive tbh & when you consider my other halfs 4pot turbo running 272 Bhp can go 19k miles before an oil change, times have changed.

That M135i is RWD like a Cayman, but you can stuff the kids in the back, it's faster, too.

Technically the One-77 is a hatchback. Don't get so hung up on body styles.

Because its in no way a competitor to either of these cars.
Why the bloody hell not?

To me its 100% aimed at both of these. Matches the BMW on power and price, yet offers the 4WD and 2.0T as you'd get in the Merc. Potentialy the best of both worlds on paper wrapped up in a lusciously good looking body.

Chris

The M135i 3 door with ZF weighs just 1440kg so it's 115kg lighter than the A45 is it not?

P:W is not too dissimilar.

Enjoyed that, thanks, tbh I'd have either, although the A45 does seem special and has probably more potential for your average joe who doesn't want the arse hanging out, besides I got a Cerb that can do that, when I feel brave or foolish, rarely then.

According to reviews the new AUDI A3 is a superb car, the new S3 / RS3 should be a proper contender, in the not too distant future the new 1M should be out.

Mercedes have shown their cards...

Great video, I enjoyed that. Nice to see some balanced journalism as well rather than sensationalising one car over the other.

Surprising how much heavier the auto box is!

Autocar weighed their 3-door auto at 1545kg

Video great but think test incomplete. Track and country roads are fine but for an all rounder / daily driver Chris should also have done town and motorway driving. If he has I suspect the BMW would have been a clear winner as it is IMO much nicer in those environments than the Merc.

And, Chris Harris quote:

"The way it covers ground is mind blowing If you're driving a C63 or BMW M3 don't even attempt to stay with an A45, you'll fall off of the road"

Top end Impreza's and EVO's weren't far off £40k and they didn't have the cachet of that three pointed star let alone the words AMG on the tailgate.....

The auto is only supposed to be 15kg more. Sounds like their figures are bks!

10 dead to 100mph is mental for a hot hatch.

I dont get why a slightly understeering car means it would be "slaughtered" - put an RS3 on a country road and it would leave the BMW and have a great fight with the A45. Furthermore, it would sound a whole lot better and (personally) look better. Sometimes there is too much of a bias towards what a roadtester looks for as opposed to what is actually important in real-life driving.
