Plenty of better cars out there in the same niche for that sort of money. Better to drive and better built.

Hot Fords are surprisingly good (i.e. slow) for depreciation, so I suspect a brand spanking new Fiesta ST + Mountune is going to keep it's value pretty well for the next few years. I can't see that being the case for a Poo Brown Astra.

A lad I know bought a green Nurburgring brand new and I have to say I really like it's looks. Plus he got 0% finance and a lifetime/100,000mile warranty
100k does indeed sound like the lifetime of a Vauxhall biggrin

I always wonder who buys cars like this.

Surely the younger buyer who is attracted to mini hot hatches, cannot afford the insurance; whilst the older buyer who can insure them, would be embarrassed to be seen in one.

RS retain value the ST's don't tbh

Not sure why you mention Astra - this is a Corsa

I would argue they are both equally embarrassing for a more mature driver...say, over 25.

Whats badge snobbery got to do with anything - I am not sure how you interpretted my comment that way?

Until I bought my Z4 Coupe(which cost me significantly less than £17k) I was running around in a £900 15 year old Alfa as a daily so I wouldn't exactly consider myself a badge snob.

I just don't understand who buys these sort of cars, as the demographic who they appeal to surely cannot afford to buy or insure them. I am 30 now and would be embarassed to drive a little chavved up shopping trolley like that as a daily. Perhaps that does make me a snob, but hell, there are a lot of cars I would rather buy with £17k than a Corsa VXR.

Incidentally first proper performance car was a Corsa GSi.

Though can appreciate the nurburgring corsa was better than the regular one, I never even contemplated changing my Clio 200 for one.

As for the GP above, I love it. Irrespective of what 'image' your average joe might have. Surely enthusiasts buy a car for its merit. I mean I get called a chav/boy racer by many at work... rolleyes

Why would it be embarrassing for the driver? They're great cars.

Not sure I like the poo brown colour on the Corsa though. Brown cars tend to look like st.

I actually like brown.
Both are trying to hard in the visual department - and that from someone with a last gen Fiesta ST which was quite restrained. I would far rather drive something like that Polo GTI without the boy-racer tat.

The colour is all wrong in the pic it's actually chilli orange and looks fantastic in the sunlight.

Perhaps best to reserve judgement on these Nurburging VXRs until you've driven one of these little racers. Ive got a 1M and my son has exactly the same car. I cant lose it in my rear view mirror and there aren't many £17k hot hatches that can do that.

These are totally different to a normal corsa vxr the handling is in a different league with the Bilstein setup and LSD that the normal VXR doesn't have. I agree, at 23k RRP they are too expensive but who pays full retail. IMO at 17k they are worth every penny.

if you look closely you can probably just make out the look of embarrassment on my 36 year old face hehe

(though that might just be because my sparco & rayban get up makes me look like the biker from the village people)

here's another one of me & my 50 year old mate with our chavved up shopping trollies biggrin

make sure you keep an eye out for us if you ever venture on track-the courteous thing to do is move over to the right & let us pass thumbup

The "standard" Corsa VXR is quite easy to throw around even for an inexperienced driver. I used to borrow my mates old one not long after I passed my test a few years ago and it was easy to control with a little understeer. They can be bought now for only £6-7k for an early one. Spend a few quid on it for 250+ bhp although piston 4 is famous for melting.

Has anyone on here forged one before or can point me in the right direction to pass on the info to a mate? Regal Motorsport are around £1200 for steel conrods and forged pistons, Courtenay are under £1k. There's obviously a lot more to it but any advice/info would be appreciated.

I was really impressed by the Corsa Nurburgring at Oulton Park - seemed easy to match the bigger Astras round there and the diff seemed to work really well on them, much more aggressive than on the Astras I tried. I guess the only disadvantage of the plate rather than a gear type is it'll lose some of its magic as the mileage clocks up

17k for a Corsaroflrofl

Horrible little car. 17k for a Vauxhall is a joke in itself.
