Had a Clio 1.5 Dci 80
Quick perky and ran on fresh air.
Key thing is to have plenty of (quality) oil changes and give it a good thrashing now and again to keep the egr valve happy.
Oh and ensure the cambelt has been done. Other than that, a damn good little motor
i owned a dci 86 clio there's just something about this engine i cant help but sing its praises i'm trying to find something similar Quick perky and ran on fresh air.

I drove a 1.5 DCi Scenic and thought it was woefully underpoweed and wheezy compared to a (albeit later) Fabia TDi.
1.6 TDCi is streets ahead in any comparison, but regularly blows itself to bits unless the oil is changed much more regularly than recommended, I believe. Daughter has one in her Focus and it is quite sprightly and very frugal.
Edit: May be barking up the wrong tree with the 1.6 TDCi; you called it something different...

I was talking about the vw group 1.6 Tdi as for PSA 1.6 TDCI its used in a lot of cars I've read mixed things about them so any input on them maybe another option
The 1.6 TDCI is a PSA engine and used in a variety of cars from Citroen, Mazda, BMW Mini, Vovlo and Fords. You will have probably read lots of horror stories about Turbo failures and I for one can support that as my C4 1.6 HDi at 73,000 miles with full Citroen service history failed.Hi there!
I had the 1.5 dCi 68HP (EURO IV) in a 2008 Clio Symbol, and now have the 75HP variant (EURO V) in a 2013 Dacia Dokker van.
Regarding the 1.6 TDI, that's on a facelifted 2012 Skoda Octavia mk2 that I drive quite regularly for the company.
I would say the TDI is more refined, but that's definately to the Skoda better sound deadening. Saying that, the EUR5 variant for the dCi runs it pretty closely in a car like a Megane or a Nissan.
I don't enjoy driving either engine in town, but that could be me hating diesels in general :P
The newer dCi pulls from lower revs than the TDI and is generaly more pleasant to drive at <70MPH speeds. On the highway though, the TDI las a longer 5th gear and is a better cruiser.
Running costs are much lower for the dCi, and that's mainly thanks to its much lower fuel consumption in town. I'm getting 6 l/100 km with the dCi where the TDI goes up to 8 l/100 in town. Outside consumption is pretty similar at under 5 for both engines.
Servicing is obviously much cheaper for the dCi, at least around where I live (Romania).
If you need any more info feel free to ask
