Still yet to hear a genuine reason why the fuss over the name, and the M4 sounding like a motorway, despite not ever hearing anyone moan about the M3 etc.

Don't see the difference personally hence why I'd like to hear the thoughts of those complaining....

Thanks
Ross, I too noticed that nobody took you up on your request to explain their (mock) outrage at the renaming of the M3 Coupe to the M4 Coupe.

It absolutely ludicrous that grown men are kicking up a fuss over a name change. Were they upset when Marathons became Snickers or when Jif became Cif? confused

I know the M3 brand has a lot of history and pedigree but that will still remain. The M3 will still survive in saloon form. I've heard people on forums saying they will not be buying the M4 Coupe because of the name change. I will almost certainly be swapping my E92 M3 for the M4 when it arrives, I dont care what it's called.

Whats the issue?
hmmmm, still waiting....
Can I suggest you get over it.
Your 'harping on' is as bad as the complaints.

scratchchin We are plonkers, to someone or another, at some time or another.

Whilst I don't see the need to change the 3 name, I also don't see why 4 sounds ridiculous... . It's still just a bloody number.
BMW saw the need for the name change, it is after all a young brand. Great idea I think for the even longer life it has ahead from here on, and positioning & niche marketing of the product

I agree there is nothing ridiculous about the 4 moniker, just a number that the Brits seem to associate with a motorway. The Audi A1 did not seem to upset many and yet it has been around a lot longer.

Every A series Audi is named after a road if you look at it that way same with the M series, there really is nothing to see here.

Is this 4 series just about a coupe then? Presumable if you want the stylist special you'll still need a 3 series convertible? So is this all then just about positioning as a competitor to the A5?

The 3 series was always a competitor to the A5 (that is just a coupe A4 after all) but BMW saw the trick in that people think that an A5 is posher nearer to a 6 series rival if you like (it's not but joe public has bought the line)

I've even seen A5 owners on here compare their cars to the 6 series so powerful is the marketing.

So the 4 will come in coupe, convertible and GC (4 door coupe) to match the A5 range.

I'm an unapologetic BMW fan boy, but those wing badges!? The 'Sport' one looks like something from eBay and the 'M' has no place there for several reasons. The stickers elsewhere were tacky as hell too. I'm sure they're optional and certain they'll go down brilliantly in many markets but whilst actual M's are less edgy with each iteration the branding is further saturated.

Overall looks wise, I'm already bored of it. If they've hit the same spot the golf has balancing performance and refinement, I'll only loose faith when they stop turning the profits towards making proper cars with some form of character elsewhere. Hopefully the M235i will be one, maybe an M2 down the line.

Couldn't agree more RE the badges on the side. I said the same thing in another 4 series thread, its stupid and they look ste.
