People that block overtakes.

Yesterday I was driving down a road that is so wide could easily take 3 cars side by side.
It's a NSL, and over a mile straight.
But for some reason, yesterday, a numpty decided he wanted to drive down it at 40, no problem, I'll just overtake him.
Oh no I wont, as I indicated, and pulled out to overtake, he decided to move over and block me, he did this twice more, before I decided my blood pressure was climbing, and decided to stay behind him until a layby, where I pulled in for ten minutes to let the muppet get out of the area.
Why do people like this do it?
Would you have reported this to the police, it must be some sort of offense?

What a tosser! Shame you didn't have someone to film it on a phone - that would have been great to take to the police.
Most blatant example I've had was on a pretty empty M62 on a four lane section. I had a bloke weaving across all 4 lanes in an effort to stop me passing - this wasn't some speed jockey either, he was doing about 60 when I came up behind him and me about 70. Weirdo.

If you had it on video then it may be seen as a form of dangerous driving. There is little else that can be done without some form of proof.
And while such actions are indeed stupid, I tend to find there is usually more than one side to each story. If the road was indeed as wide was you say, then why did you not use the other side of the road for the overtake? Or was it not really clear enough to do so and you were trying to create your own personal middle lane just to get past?

I though yesterday was bad enough, but that sounds insane.This could be seen as dangerous driving, and that is very much an offense, unfortunately without a dash cam the police wouldn't be able to do anything due to lack of evidence. Now with a dash cam they wouldn't be able to do anything due to lack of being bothered.

Because he was being blocked by the other guy?
I know on PH the OP is always wrong apparently, but his first post is fairly self-explanatory.

Fair question, the guy was fully moving onto the wrong side of the road, I could have probably got by him if I had been more aggressive, but it's not worth it.swisstoni said:

When this happens, I wonder if they are trying to block the overtake, or they were not paying attention, and realize how slow they are going, and speed up without thinking.Weird behaviour. Round here, we have a bottleneck 2 lanes into 1 30mph main road that is poorly designed in that just after the lanes merge there are three right turn junctions. That causes queueing on its own, so you get selfish drivers belting down the 2nd lane & forcing their way in at the last minute rather than merging in turn & taking their share of the delay.
I quite often see people straddling the 2nd lane to stop this happening & that is the only circumstance where I don't mind it as it contributes to the flow of traffic.

Happens all the time, car in front is doing 65, all of a sudden you have to do 75 just to get past, you get in front slow down to 67 and they go back to 65....Justin Cyder said:

Erm... The people driving up the right hand lane are doing the right thing according to the Highway Code. The people driving up the left hand lane are also doing the right thing according to the Highway Code, although they're being somewhat dopey if they just join the back of the queue in the left hand lane when the right hand lane is empty, as they're just causing traffic to back up further than it has to in the left hand lane.
People who straddle the two lanes to stop other people driving perfectly acceptably are complete s who deserve to have their scrotums nailed to the tarmac.
I do realise that. But you are describing a perfect world & every day I see wkers barging their way in & causing the delays in the first place. In practice, the boys in the white vans for it usually that subspecies see the car up ahead blocking the lane, see sense, pull in earlier & the whole thing flows better than if Mr. fk off out of my way had pulled his selfish st.

yeah, that.Follow like a stalker without any hint to want to pass, then blast past before numpty mcwkerbrain has registered you're wanting to overtake.
Had a couple of close calls in the past with "I'd-rather-die-in-a-fireball-than-be-overtaken" spanners over the years when attempting sensible overtakes, often in horribly underpowered PoS vans where overtakes are carefully planned and executed manuevers and you simply can't react to the average car deciding to play dare with the lives of others. Partly why my current work van is the vito 120 (which has the 200BHP V6 TDI)
The other solution is a big 4x4 with bullbars. People just don't fk with you to anywhere near the same degree was my experience.
