Just spent 2 days running a mint 540/e39 and loved it. I know it's not quite an M5 but I doubt there's a better £1k car out there and it isn't what you'd call slow.

bit before an E39 however these E34 M5 take a bit of beating for classy looks and performance.

I was just thinking the same thing. Imagine being presented with both a factory mint E34 M5 and an E39 M5 and you're allowed to take home one of them. It wouldn't be easy but I think I'd be leaving in the E34, they just have masses of seriousness about them that I love.

The top picture is surely a replica with twin exhausts instead of quad..

E39. I remember my 530i fondly. It was an SE so very subtle and had been badge deleted. Loved that car, manual too.. Always fancied an M5 or a 540i..

This takes me back! I remember watching these films on my Packard Bell computer at my parents' house. I'd just had 'Telewest' round and subscribed to a £25/month 1mb broadband service which was great for porn and BMW films.

Star was great but I remember lusting after the 540i in 'Ambush'.

It'd be great to see them do a modern day version with the same actors and 'f' series cars now.

My favourite - The Hire. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-BHzHAmCCk

The film that made me lust over an E39 M5. Had mine now for 5 years or so and I doubt I will sell it. Oh and the picture at the top of the article is not an M5 with only 1 set of pipes and square mirrors.

Check my garage out and make up your own mind...

Isn't the car missing the two right hand side exhausts in the picture in the article (when she is "delivered" to the red carpet)?

The first one, "Ambush" directed by John Frankenheimer (who of course directed Ronin) is my fave.

Car chases are boring, no matter who directed them.

I consider upgrades anything that isnt really essential, so it includes stuff like

- £132 for a new car key (I could have made do with just the 1 key, but you dont want to take any chances really)
- £3 for a PH smilie wink
- £27 new mats
- £4 for a new windscreen bottle cap
- £468 on a set of facelift Xenons
- £46 on some 3M di-noc for interior trim
- £195 on a two-day valet
- £200 on a H&S exhaust
- £343 on a detachable tow-bar
- £290 on a set of (refurbished) alloys for winter wheels (excl tyres)
- £25 on an cubby hole armrest replacement (to ditch the ancient Nokia phone insert)
- £38 on some 'authentic' numberplate surrounds and plates

and possibly some other stuff I forgot to list... In any case, take that amount away and the cost is quite reasonable don't you think?

They say Guy never knocked Madge about. He got Clive to do it.

BMW Z3M Coupe for me. Nothing else will do.

Need to check the other films.
