Sat in a 991 Carrera at Goodwood a couple of weeks ago and was amazed how the 911 has lost it's compact feel in this generation- it really did feel big from behind the wheel whereas the 997 felt very compact. Everybody keeps on saying how large the R35 GTR is but it is now only 1" wider (and 4 longer) than a 991 Turbo, 2" wider than a GT3.

Is this something that's been missed in all the furore over electric power steering? For me its compact feel was one of the best things about 911s.

I agree that the 991 feels larger than the 997. I drove my cousins C4s recently and it certainly felt a lot more portly than my 997.

Apparently cars have to be bigger to meet crash regulations.

Went for a ride in a 997 (GT3) a while ago, have to agree the cabin felt quite small in comparison to the 991.

Lighter than the previous 997 the 991 C2S is about 1470kg, a stunning car, drive one before you pass judgement.

It's no wider the 997 with slighty longer wheel base and shorter over hangs front and rear.

I own one, and drove the other... to me it felt a fair big lardier.

6" in car terms is quite a considerable difference.

Yeah I know but you'd expect more between a compact 911 turbo and a full sized lamborghini!
