RE: Next Mini revealed in concept
Discussion
lazy fuggers... growing to despise this brand. Just call it the BMW 0.5 Series and be done with it. Others do it better for less, and the design is representative of when BMW get it wrong in redeveloping British iconic cars like with the Rover 75. The fact that they did such an excellent job with the Range Rover L322 and the Phantom makes it all the more galling. The entire Mini range is overpriced, oversized and over here. Also seems to be exclusively bought by the ethnically clothed coffee shop owner in her late 50s. I'll stick with my MPI thanks.

Why L200 size? The original was the same as the standard car.
Not mine... but there are plenty of MINI Pick-Ups out there.
A little OTT for me but despite it probably being a bit practically pointless, I'd suffer an 'official' MINI Pick-up. At least it'll look significantly different from MINI, Countryman, Clubman, etc etc etc..Not mine... but there are plenty of MINI Pick-Ups out there.
Interestingly the problem I find with the latest incarnation of the MINI is that when BMW released the first one, it looked (style wise) close enough to the original to have almost retro-cool looks. Not unlike the Fiat 500. However, subsequent fettling has made it grow further and lose its clean, in-proportion appearance.
Now it seems to be fiddling for fiddling sake.
I don't doubt it'll sell. But just because it sells, doesn't make it good.

Have to say the fiddling from MINI looks alot better than the 500's fettling, What the hell is happening with the 500XL with its caster wheels, huge ass and 7 seats.
You had to mention the XL didn't you? Yes, I agree the XL is a work of art. It has managed to make a quite nice looking 500, look nothing like itself and become a bland, bloated taxi. However, that doesn't excuse MINI. I think they want to twiddle but they don't really know what to twiddle with..

I was a bit shocked when I saw the 500XL in the flesh. Apparently FIAT plan to make all their cars into variants of the Panda or the 500.dukebox9reg said:

You must get really upset about Apple products too.
I'm not overly keen on some aspects of them, no. I wouldn't exactly say upset though. I didn't realise I was that predictable!

Fiat 500? No longer 500cc but I don't see all the sentimental Italians getting upset about that. The MINI name provides many 1000s of jobs in the UK and the product sells well despite the name.
Fair point, but again - as said above, we're back on the "Things are often different now and lots of people like it" and "It sells really well" arguments. Not "This car is awesome because...". The Nissan Juke sells well but that doesn't mean I have I appreciate the jobs they bring into the country as I appreciate any manufacturing in the UK and I'm' not saying that I hope they fail horribly and never get built. I'm just saying that I'm not that keen myself and that enthusiasts seems to struggle to find reasons to like them other than "they sell really well, so must be great". Marketing can be as much to do with sales as the quality of the product. For example, have you seen the Countryman? Seriously? Seems to be selling very well near me. Again, I'm not saying that's wrong, I'm a sucker for advertising that appeals to me.
