RE: Next Mini revealed in concept
Discussion
Is there anybody else who can't tell the difference visually between a 1st gen and 2nd gen "new" mini until they look at the number plate?
So many people saying the 1st gen looks so much better, and they can't live with the 2nd gen looks... and I'm just like

Yeah, but none of them get 45mpg, include servicing for 5 years for £200, most of them aren't £25k, but closer to £15K... and most girls I know, including a few I've known and know particularly well wouldn't want a CSL or 911 at any price.
As for "That grille is pure Mini, with the hexagonal shape borrowing from the original Cooper style rather than the sad-face arch." Erm, the original cooper had the sad-face arch as well? They all did until the MK2 of introduced the hexagonal grille.

WHY WOULD YOU BUY A MINI ON FINANCE YOU COULD HAVE A E46 M3 CSL FOR THAT
MONEY!!
Or a m3 and a e39 M5!!!
Or a 911!
All credible contenders to the family-friendly, cheap to run and easy to live with MINI. Look love, I've bought us two elderly M cars instead of that MINI you wanted! MONEY!!

Had an R56 Cooper S, which had 4 faults and 1 recall in 12 month's AUC ownership, handed it back to BMW when the trim around the steering column fell away and started flapping around, and the turbo started spluttering intermittently.
Terrible ownership experience. Won't go near a MINI again.
Snap. I VT'd mine at just about the right time - I'm certain the turbo was about to go kaput. Terrible ownership experience. Won't go near a MINI again.

Looking forward to seeing what the 3rd gen will look like in the flesh.
Go find a picture of an original mini, close one eye, squint and look at it through a magnifying glass that is a little bit too close to the picture.I doubt that would be too far off and I don't even mean that in a nasty "All Minis look the same" way.

Same face as the concept, normal doorhandles, no plastic strip from the door mirror/windscreen pillar to the wheelarch.

I've owned a few BINI's over the years.
Great cars. Decent dealers. There's little to criticise really.
In PH world, where powerfully built sorts look down on these cars as the transport of estate agents and hairdressers, the Mini is not really appreciated.
But I really enjoyed owning ours. The regular Cooper was a bit anaemic but the S was a lovely little car that I was really quite fond of. I would like another.
Hopefully the new one will not be just a case of change the sake of change, but offers genuine improvements.
I think the best thing they could do is make the car lighter - that would improve everything. And give them larger fuel tanks - the range on the S was its only irritating flaw.

Here's me during some time off from the curling tongs
Great little cars, and as you say good dealers-as an ownership experience the only negatives I've experienced in 6 months have been from Pistonheads posters.
