RE: Next Mini revealed in concept

...only negatives I've experienced in 6 months have been from Pistonheads posters.
I'd consider that a badge of honor. Admiration from this lot? No thanks! "Funky? I don't want funky!" - Oh dear.
If you're not driving an XF estate (ancient platform, horrid on board comp/satnav), you may as well throw yourself down a well.
Not sure why they are bothering to reveal it in concept when the production ready version has already leaked!

Little? That is all marketing, they are huge buggers!
I'm sure the new one will be extremely popular in China. Similarly with the Evoque, I don't like the design and wouldn't buy one, but they sell extremely well around the world, and keep a lot of UK people in high quality skilled and nicely paid jobs, so good for them!

Looking forward to seeing what the 3rd gen will look like in the flesh.

Same face as the concept, normal doorhandles, no plastic strip from the door mirror/windscreen pillar to the wheelarch.

Next we'll be wishing the latest Focus still looked like a Mk1 Escort...actually, it would be quite cool if it did but that kind of defeats my point.
Oh no, hold on, this just topped it.Seriously though I think the concept is hideous. It looks like it has some unfortunately debilitating mental/physical disability, knows it, and is very sad about the fact.
I'm personally of the belief that calling any of the comically over-speedo'd new ones "MINI" is laughable, largely due to their size. The ryman, of course, being the worst. My favourite bit of the whole things is that those who like them always seem to use the same arguments: "It's meant to be different", "Times move on", "Millions would disagree that it's st". I find those arguments flawed in that A) People rarely say a reason why this car is better than the old one, those arguments apply to any new car and B) This is Pistonheads. We're all kind of old fashioned on here as millions of people care more about CO2 and economy than performance, so if you're going to say that new ways are better and the opinion of the masses is what's important, I'd consider moving on to another site.
Having said that though, I did find myself looking at an early BMW Cooper S the other day thinking that I could get on board with owning one...
I'd have to remove all the MINI badges though.

WHY WOULD YOU BUY A MINI ON FINANCE YOU COULD HAVE A E46 M3 CSL FOR THAT
MONEY!!
Or a m3 and a e39 M5!!!
Or a 911!
So I can pass it on to the poor people once its dropped in value enough for them, think of it as me doing my little bit to help along those not as fortunate as myself MONEY!!
Or a m3 and a e39 M5!!!

Marketing speak: Huge on the outside, tiny on the inside!I liked that concept they made a while back, you know the actual tiny MINI? The one they said they aren't going to make.
EDIT: Rocketman!

Every new take on an older car is larger than the old one. Is the new fiat 500 not a fiat by your logic? What about the 911? The list goes on and on.Edited by JaguarsportXJR on Monday 29th July 19:37
I don't think the argument for it is 'Millions would disagree that it's st'. The vast majority of people that drove/own the new MINI find it a fun car to drive.

Look forward to seeing the final result. Still don't think you can beat the very first cars in solid colours, and on small wheels;
Or a very subtly modified 1st Gen Cooper (Cooper S bumpers, and a couple of other OEM mods)
Still looks fresh imo. Always loved the red body/white roof/white pepper pot alloys combo. Or a very subtly modified 1st Gen Cooper (Cooper S bumpers, and a couple of other OEM mods)

And I thought Gert Hildebrand had gone to a better world. Obviously his influence lives on........ (unfortunately).
I think this was the last car he over-saw whilst still at MINI.The design department is now headed by Anders Warming, who was in charge for the new X3, Z4, F12 6 Series & F10 5 Series (which to my eye are all quite pleasant).
I don't think the Rocketman idea has been completely canned (I know the car has, but I think the concept/idea still lives on), I think there is still a possibility of MINI building an IQ/Smart Car rival, but I think this is some way off at the moment.
It will be interesting to see how the 3 Cyl. engine stacks up, especially in the Cooper S. Maybe there will now be a much more noticable step up to the JCW version (rumoured to be running a 2.0 4 Cyl. lump).
What I would say is that me and my partner got a Cooper S on her company car scheme over a base 1-series and liked it so much we got the JCW second time round.
We hated much of the MINI image and seeing the way many people drive their "sportscar" minis makes us want to hide - but seriously as a day to day proposition it's a glorious little bundle of fun. As I've said before, not the best car I've ever driven but one that made me smile all the time and never stopped giving its all. A car with soul and I'll happily get another!!!
