RE: BMW M635CSi: Spotted

A thing of great beauty!
How did BMW get their designs so ugly in the past 5 years when they used to build cars like this ?
I had a 635 auto for a couple of years around 98' until the rust got too bad always fancied a manual version preferable in 24v M flavour. Lovely driving position, great long distance cars and such a good looking car.

I have always loved the M635CSi - probably the coolest car ever made
This is a great clip of the car in the movie Innerspace http://youtu.be/RmzJ_FYAhZQ

...me and my brother took the plunge last week, a 1979 E24 635CSI. Dogleg manual, 18k miles from new...99% rust free time warp condition...dry stored for 18 years, after a week of work it's MOT time tomorrow, wish us luck...How did BMW get their designs so ugly in the past 5 years when they used to build cars like this ?

Sounds superb put some pics up.I missed out on an early model dog leg manual that had a roll cage fitted for sale in Clapham in 97' wish I had bought that one and saved it in the back of the garage till now.
I really covet the 80s 6 series, I think that shark nose looks so mean. I saw a magazine feature on a German BMW nut who had a beautiful Alpina 6 series. It looked great with more of a splitter at the front and a turbo added onto the engine. I did some hunting for one but they are a rare thing and far out of my budget. Insurance was something like £3000. Still if I looked hard enough with a classic car expert I'm sure I could find one.
I'd rather have this one of 5 rhd, definitely a product of its time and the Ultimate version of its model:

As is the case now, the flagship 6 Series used the M5's engine and gearbox. For the M635 CSi and E28 M5, this was a 3,453cc straight-six based on the M1's unit but with a wet-sump and Bosch fuel injection.
I'm fairly certain that the M635 was actually on sale a couple of years before the E28 M5...

The 416bhp Alpina B12 5.7 Coupe was the ultimate version of the E31; and the 330bhp Alpina B7S the ultimate version of the E24http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/b...
