Rather this one
Wouldn't even know it had done 144k miles, it is immaculate. I think the only reason it was at the garage was a dirty brake line, which to me didn't even look corroded, it is pure porn.
But agreed, the 3.0CSL is a much nicer car
A 3.0 CSL is a fantastic car and an incredible looker but it is not an 'M' car and there is a limit, street use wise, as to what you can do with a 2.9 to 3.1 litre M30 engine. At best in hot street form you'll get 275hp but it will be a harsh high rpm ride. The M6 rides like a modern car while the E9 CSL rides like a historic car. The M6 can be tweaked (okay, forged internals and a decent amount of work) to give 375hp in hot street form and in full race form, gives 495hp. It rides like a modern BMW, is a gentleman's grand tourer that is track-able, weighs in at just over 1500kg and when it has had some engine work, will keep with an E46 M3 all day. If I could only buy one, I'd take the M6 over the E9 CSL. Wouldn't even know it had done 144k miles, it is immaculate. This is on my bucket list, I've got a 633CSi and it goes hard in manual form, must sell it and save for the M635!

I'd rather have this one of 5 rhd, definitely a product of its time and the Ultimate version of its model:

The 416bhp Alpina B12 5.7 Coupe was the ultimate version of the E31; and the 330bhp Alpina B7S the ultimate version of the E24http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/b...

Whats happened to BMW? they're still bloody good engineers from what i understand but oh how have they fallen in the styling department. BMW's of old have a stance, a purpose and an intimidating look that gave them such presence. Even parked up stationary they look like they're desperate to be let loose to gobble up the tarmac, small children animals and anything else in their way.
I look at a BMW now and my heart sinks its looks like a marshmallow that has slightly melted in front of a fire, they've gone from mean looking to depressed looking. I dont doubt they're still good cars by today standards but if i was to completely judge a car by its looks id rather have a KIA or Hyundai now, or god forbid a Peugeot (which funnily enough have gone the same way but thats off topic).

I remember the M635 CSi Jim Richards ran in Australian touring car races in the early 80's.
In full black & gold JPS livery, it looked and sounded fantastic.
There are plenty of videos and pics of it around if you search for 'bathurst m635 bmw' or similar terms.
Uber cool - the batmobile never made it down under, as far as I know, so it's the 635 for me.

In fairness we're talking about how cool it is, not whether it's a better car or not. Without doubt the M635 is better.
M635 more comfortable, more toys but better? Certainly not better handling, acceleration (especially so with this 250ps Alpina version), brakes, looks, residuals. 1200kgs SUPER COOL.Love them, mainly because I built the Tamiya 1:24 scale model as a nipper-complete with cool livery from BMW original parts
Must say however that a few years ago when these were peanuts they were known as having terrible handling-people were actively put off them on car forums-what's changed?

Love the 3.0csl Batmobile, but the M635csi is for 'me' the best car BMW has ever made (especially in the looks department). You could sit all day and look at it. I'd still have one if I had funds and the missus looked the other way.
When I had my E21 323i (another great looking BMW), this was the car to lust after
Stunning car

Oh no.... I'm thinking of spending that on a 123d, and then you go and post that! Frances The Mute said:
It doesn't have to be compared to anything to believe it's ludicrously priced.
I don't doubt it will become a classic in it's own right. However, there's still too many of them around at the moment to justify that sort of pricetag.
It's a classic now, I would argue. I don't think there are many of them around at all (we are talking about the M635CSi / M6 rather than the 635CSi obviously) and I don't think there ever were that many made. I seem to recall it costing more than a Ferrari 328GTB when new, which affected numbers sold I would imagine.I don't doubt it will become a classic in it's own right. I saw a black US spec M6 at Munich Legends in about the 1998 and it looked very very desirable. There was also a Dinan modified US M6 in black with gold wheels for sale a few years back that looked very well loved. For me, my favourite is the white one on 840Ci Sport wheels on this thread; that looks fantastic.

a few points- it looks (in the crap photos) like a dog
- it's got a few more miles under its belt
but here's the big one....
- it's not the same model and has a totally different engine
the E92 M3 costs what, £30k more than a 320d.......how absurd

I think the one thing everyone is agreed upon is that both the M635 and 3.0 csl are both fantastic looking cars.
If the lottery came up, I'd have both and an e28 M5.
My father had a 733i of the same era - no way as quick but a great car, and as a child I always thought the 635 was the best.
I still have a BMW M brochure with the M3, M5 and M635 - probably the period in BMW's history when they made cars that were both technologically with the times, beautiful to look at and well made.
Now I find myself liking more of Mercedes cars than BMW - or maybe I'm getting on a bit...
