I'm 120 miles away. That would be fking stupid.

Try again?
Harsh, given your OP leads us to think that response is entirely plausible.
I was joking... P Nuts was quite close...

She said: You'll have to do that.

(NOT a question...a statement of fact..)

I said: Well I can't do anything til Friday. If you want to use the car, you should check the pressures first.

She said: Well I won't use it then.

I said: It will take you 5 mins to check the pressures and 15 mins to take it up the road

She said: I'm not taking it to a garage, they'll start bull stting me and charge me for 4 brand new tyres, and you'll come home and get grumpy.

I said: What sort of role model are you giving to our daughter ? You need to show her that women can sort out stuff like this, and don't have to rely on blokes for everything.

(and this is what has really pissed me off)

She said: I'm giving her a really good role model, the one that encourages her to find a bloke who sorts stuff out like that and doesn't expect her to do it herself.....

I Said: I'll sort it out, but She'll be helping and if I have to get an new tyre she can come and get it with me....

FFS I hope she was joking, but I know she's not.

But you know what, she's not.

I'm going to have to make it clear that I am not capable any longer, of cleaning, or washing up, or ironing, or hanging up washing, or anything that is traditional woman's work. And if sent shopping I will deliberately buy beer, and forget the food.

To be fair, if she had gone to get it sorted and ended up getting new discs and shock absorbers fitted in the process you would have said "why didn't you wait for me to come over I'd have done it for you"

Perhaps you need to help her, maybe get her involved in a SMED to refine the process of tyre changing? Maybe get her to do a FMEA and then she might understand consequences of not going to Pauls tyres wink

My mrs told me her tracking might need looking at after her 20 min drive home, as her car was pulling to the left. Turns out she'd driven 20 mins on a flat tyre!!

Feck off. I've spent the month doing DFMEAs with lots of different design groups on various airspace engine bits.

Mine insists that she can't possibly fit the baby seat in the car. This is nonsense.

It annoys me greatly that she places so low a value on my disdain that she'll happily feign total dribbling incompetence to avoid a small chore.

So I pile on the disdain with a disproportionate relish. One of us will break, one day.

Very easily to generalise, but women's car knowledge and driving/mechanical ability varies widely - same as men's!

I work in a petrol station. One of my colleagues, a single mum in her early 40's, refuses to check her own tyres. She actually takes it to her garage, and gets "the boys" to check it for her. She plays on her lack of knowledge.
My missus, on the other hand, does everything for herself, and is possibly a better driver than me - she's certainly better at parking.
We recently bought a 7 metre coachbuilt motorhome. I leave it to her to drive it down the narrow lanes, as the size of the thing scares me a little. Her ex-husband owned a coach company, and she used to drive 52-seaters.

To be fair, this is not the sole preserve of the female gender. I may or may not have feigned total incompetence at one or more of the following tasks:

Cooking
Cleaning
Washing
Ironing

I'd quite happily put up with the occasional car cretinism if it means I don't have to risk burning a hole in my shirts.

Because I mentioned Paul ? He's a one man band that 99.999999999% of PHers will be too far away to use, so not really. If it gets him any sales please let me know and I'll ask him for a discount, next time I need his services.

He's the only tyre fitter I know who knows how to use a torque wrench and makes an attempt to find out the correct setting, so that should be enough of a recommendation.

My other half had to be persuaded to check her own tyres via the petrol station air pumps. She can do it fine after i showed her what to do but it was daunting for her at the thought of messing things up.

Things went bad after her sister managed to empty all the air out her one tyre when she tried to check her tyres. (i think she used the wrong end of the pressure guage, the one for deflating)

I explained that she just had to give things a go and stop thinking negative all the time!

She is fine now and has picked up wee bits of car knowledge from me over the years. She does not get under pressure now from main dealers if they try and sell her stuff.
Her car was in for it's yeary warranty check and they tried to sell her front discs and pads by saying car was dangerous and has to get done asap, she said that she will get them done elsewhere as she does not have to use genuine vauxhall parts and her warranty would be intact as brakes etc are not covered.

I bet some women would have thought "oh no its dangerous and better pay full price to have them done now".
