At the moment I drive an old fiesta and am desperate early next year when I have a 1 years no claims to get a car I actually love, however insurance will be a problem at 18.

How many of you love the car you drive?

What sort of thing could I be looking at within a budget of 5k that won't be a killer on insurance? Looked at mk2 Golf GTI 8v but insurance was over 3k:O

I think it'll have to be a reasonably old car because there's no new cars in that price range that I think could be my pride and joy, apart from a renault Twingo renaultsport which would around 5k, who's driven one? From what i've heard they are awesome...

Brother In Law has a renaultsport twingo cup, it's a bit meh for me, the driving position is awkward, you feel like you sit on it not in it, it's not really quick just merely nippy and it feels like it's built from Jacobs crackers.

Corners well though.

At the moment I'd have to say no.

I have a W reg Merc C-Class, the fairly boggo C180 auto model. (Although it is the 'Sport' variant. Woo!) I've had it longer than any other car I've owned at nearly two years now, and its purely because I can't afford anything else at the moment. Its not worth very much and even if I sold it I don't have any disposable cash to put towards something new. In my previous job I had a lot of spare cash each month, so could throw it at cars and running costs without much to care about, sadly a new job and pay cut mean I've had to kiss all that goodbye.

The Merc is just a cheap, fairly boring car that keeps me on wheels but its not too bad. Its comfy at least and has a good sound system, and despite being at nearly 200k on the clock its immaculate inside but rather weatherbeaten on the outside. Until I start to earn a bit more its going to have to do.

Looking back, I think the only cars I've loved would have been my S13, Mk1 MX-5 and my Alfa GTV.

Yes I truly love my daily driver. And for me it's the ideal car for doing 80 miles a day in. Smart Roadster. Fantastic everyday sports car. That still feels special to drive even after 45,000 miles together.

Is this a thread about PHers loving their car, or another "what car" thread for you?

Classic and kit cars will likely offer the best insurance prices vs performance and how interesting the car is. You'll need to shop around for quotes though, as Internet comparison sites won't show the best deals.

It was more about PHers loving their cars, and I just asked if anyone had any experience with a RS Twingo cause i've read reviews of people loving them and it got me thinking...daaamn.

Im 20 and drive a Honda Civic Type R, I absoloutly LOVE it to bits! Insurance was only around the £1000 mark fully comp with full legal and break down cover with 0 no claims (I was also 19 when I took out the policy) So you may be surprised! When I was 17 I had a crappy little 1.4 saxo, but I loved it because it was so st. Use to play a game with a friend who also has a saxo of whos was making the strangest noise that day! Nippy little car too!

Have you tried somelike like an EK shape Civic Jordan? Mental little cars and quite cheap to insure! Or maybe something like an EK4 with a B16 conversion like this:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/h...

Obviously insure it for what it is (1.6) not what the current owner is doing, but I doubt the insurance would be too bad on that! Mad little car too! Its probably pushing 170BHP and weights nothing! Has legendary reliability too!

I also know a few 18 year olds with Fiesta ST's, I don't personally like them as they dont chuck out much power for being a 2litre, but some people love them! You could even get a classic Mini Cooper S for around that price and have miles of fun!

Just get something lightweight with a rev happy engine and it'll be like a road going go-kart biggrin

Most certainly I can't think of anything better for the daily Commute and everything else that it does than my 2006 Mustang GT.

I love my Range Rover and (unless I win the lottery) I can't see that I would ever want to change it, I like my 944 but if one had to go it would be that.

Love type-R's sounds like you got a good deal on insurance too! Didn't really think about that shape civic but i like it!

Don't mind ST's but not really a fan of my shape fiesta which would be the only one in budget, Really didn't think a cooper S would be anywhere near in budget?

Yeah that's why I was thinking of the Twingo, lightweight and an exteremly rev happy engine i hear, thankyou!

Yup, absolutely the most fun car I've owned. The better part of 280bhp, electric everything and it cost the same as a monthly payment on some horrid modern diesel smile

I adore driving my Volvo V70 phase 2. Especially when it has no lights flagging some problem or other.

I've got a mark V GTI golf and I love it. Its my first performance motor and man I know why I love cars. I know its only a Golf but the noises, the road holding, the dsg gearbox, the way it turns in I really am a fan. I also love the fact only people in the know talk to me about the car. Also love the fact you spank base model bmws, audi, mercs for fun.

The only cars I'd replace it with apart from exotica is m135i (three door only as five door is too ugly) or the a45. When they come to decent money. Thinking of the mk 6 Golf R but dont know if its a big enough change?

Anyways I digress LOVE MY CAR!
