Jaguar XKR-S GT to be sold in Britain

But there's only ten, and they're not exactly affordable...

It always looked on the cards, and today Jaguar has confirmed what had long been expected: there will be a British allocation of XKR-S GT coupes.

At its New York motor show launch, Jaguar was adamant just 30 XKR-S GTs would be made for America and Canada, but now 10 more will be produced just for us. We're certainly very glad Jaguar relented on its original stance, as the XKR-S GT could be mega.

Not to be seen at the golf club any time soon
Not to be seen at the golf club any time soon
As was announced at New York, the GT includes a host of upgrades over the standard XKR-S; a wider front track, stiffer suspension with bespoke dampers, carbon ceramic brakes, 145kg of downforce and a reduction in kerbweight. Jaguar has today also revealed the 550hp XKRS-GT has lapped the Nordschleife in 7min 40sec, making it the fastest Jag ever round there, beating the XJ220's 7min 46sec.

The price? It's £135,000, or £38,000 more than a 'regular' XKR-S. However, the price doesn't look totally ridiculous when the mechanical tweaks are taken into account with the guaranteed rarity. Maserati asks £20,000 more for an MC Stradale over a 4.7 Sport without the limited production and over £25,000 is needed for a Gallardo Superleggera over a standard LP560-4. Customers will receive their XKR-S GT in October, but can this track-focused XKR be worth that sort of premium?

Worth it for the sound alone (anyone else hear it go up the hill this year?)

A lot of performance for the money. Aesthetically the rear wing could have been better integrated-but hey another Jaguar halo car goes on sale in blighty.

I like it....
..... but not sure what it is!! Too compromised to be used as a proper track day car and now also compromised as a comfortable GT, which is what the car was designed and built for.

Lovely cars. Full of character. And what a noise they make.

It does'nt matter that there are getting pretty old. As an ownership prospect they are very attractive.

+1, agreed whole heartedly with you there BB. I have always liked the XK but wouldnt ever see a time when I needed anything beyond the 'R' or an 'RS'. Taking in to account the extra Wonga required to purchase, I would opt for a nice tidy XKR for wafting around in and jaunting over the continent in and spend some of the cash saved from not buying the version with the stick on wing to have a track based piece of lunacy for when I need to boil my blood.

Stunner! Remember the price increase of M3 GTS over M3?
I reckon that this is worth more of the difference smile

They are only making 10. They will sell every one of them easily.

This is all a part of the narrative where Jaguar re-establish their brand. They are a long way from the pipe and slippers, retired Brigadier market they used to be known for , after all. Which is the whole point of it I guess.

I get the Halo brand thing - let's face it, I have an RS6 and a GTR. smile But £135,000 for a modified Jaguar XK?? They are only making 10, because they would probably only sell 10 imho!

Is the article not actually saying that due to huge demand they've been persuaded to make 10 for the UK market when they were originally only planning on making 30 for the US?!

Given the way the XKR-S is plummeting in price, these will probably be worth picking up in a few years time!

If I wanted a 'track focussed' modified road car for around £130k then I wouldn't be handing Jaguar the money... smile
