Bit of a bold statement to make saying that F1 drivers dont have the skills to help develop a road car...
Not really. They'll definitely need to know their way around their car in terms of developing what's right for the track but for a domestic vehicle on road? Completely different kettle of fish.
Most racing drivers don't have much of a clue about how a damper works beyond the basics of changes and effects, let alone knowing how to take one apart and revalving it to achieve what you want. I don't see how you could tune a car properly if you didn't understand that.

Most could probably drive it around a race circuit after a proper dynamics engineer has given it a thorough road tune and share their probably valid opinion on how it could be improved on track, but that's not really tuning a road car it's giving feedback as part of a process.

Apart from the obvious Senna/NSX connection didn't Schoomi have some input into some Ferrari road cars? Who could possibly forget the input of Mark "Mega" Blundell in the development of the MGF????
