The Subaru is faster to 60 apparently, so I'll have that.

And I like the blue.

Something that would have more of an effect on younger buyers, but are there differences in insurance? Especially a few years down the line, when a few of them have been crashed!

I don't care about the badge, I'm still going to buy the first one I see in budget in a colour I don't hate.

Salesman told me Subaru now comes with a 5 year warranty.

Both would benefit from higher quality tires in my view (easily remedied though) possibly smaller dimentions so as to give less grip but with more precision.

I have always liked the Celica styling through its successive generations.

Regrettably, neither of these do anything for me. They are bland, derivative designs with no spark of originality and so fall down on the fact they just don't look "special" - I still prefer the looks of a Capri 2.8 TBH.

With so little difference between them, and no way that any small chassis difference would be noticeable to my amateur hands, I would take the Subaru on three counts - a) the name ('I drive a Toyota' vs 'I drive a Subaru') b) exclusivity c) aesthetics - I find the front of the BRZ just a bit more pleasing. Others will no doubt disagree.

The TRD pricing is terrifying - you cannot overlook the M135i at that point (yes I know...). Which worries me for the convertible version, as a drop-top one of these has to be right up there for affordable all-round awesomeness.

Yes, cheap.

The MX5 and a basic 1-series are probably the only cheaper (when inflation adjusted) RWD cars sold in the UK in the past, what, 20 years?

RX8, 200SX, S2000, 3-series coupe, Supra, Elise etc etc - all these cars and their ilk sold for more than what the GT86/BRZ currently does.

shibby!

I drove a GT86, back to back with my E46 M3, E90 M3 and a new M135i........

GT86, is a VERY VERY good car. Just getting in and sitting there before even driving it felt right.

After driving all 4, what i wanted was the power of the M135i, the size and chassis and feel of the GT86........ it pretty much meant i was to keep my E46.

But i would have a VERY hard time trying to pick between an M135 and a GT86, they are a very good car.

I was not bothered about the lack of pace, its quick enough to be honest. Sometimes i think the E46 with its taller gears etc might be too fast for the road, top of 3rd afterall is 100mph, So alwasy spend most of my time in the middle of 3rd to be honest, never mind how fast the E90 is.

So yes i want one!

Not at that price premium though. Maybe in a few years when they come down in price. Unless they bring out a turbo version or something, then i would more than likely put my name down right away. smile

How curious that a car built in the same factory but badged differently can carry different warranties and one has "supply issues", seems Subaru have shot themselves in the foot with that one!

When the guys on Drive refer to it they default to the BRZ which makes me think US BRZ supplies are being prioritised while in Europe it is the reverse. Just a thought.

Im in the process of negotiating a deal on a Red, manual, alcantara, satnav GT86. I got the car last week for a 5 hour test drive...gave it back after 2 hours and said ' lets talk numbers, no need to pitch to me!'.

The smile on the salesmans face was priceless!...he aint smiling now cos im not falling for any of the usual tricks!

I hope I can get it in my budget...Have been waiting for a long time for this one!

yes Times is hard... the 'target demographic' aren't willing/able to spunk £25+k on an impractical 2+2 car, especially when most hot-hatches will out-drag it from the lights; that's why they are being bought by olde fartes like moi.

Ha ha....i am an ex 350z owner as well..I loved that car! proper jap muscle. The GT86 makes you appreciate the dynamics of a chasis and the power and flat torque curve is enough to accelerate hard without the cops chasing you down.

A flick through the classifieds will show, these will soon be well within the target demographic reach though. They are being hammered in the trade.

7 month old well specced '86s (£28k new) with less than 5k on the clock are struggling to fetch £18k-19k.

Yep, but that's an issue peculiar to a couple of countries in Europe (UK, maybe Germany?). Pretty much everywhere else in the world, the Cayman remains much more expensive than a new GT86.

As you say, the GT86 is never going to sell in big numbers in Europe.
