My Japanese is not that good - what's it say?
Or is it just bolt on after market goodies like the TRD stuff?

It's just those wonderfully vague "teaser" images thus far. No mention of any upgrades, aesthetic or otherwise - yet.

With this and the new impreza sti, I can see importers being busy.

Or atleast I hope they will be, so I can buy one in a few years.

Sat in a few used GT86s over the weekend. Not actually driven one though yet.

Have to say I love the exterior styling and the thought of wringing the 197bhp RWD out on a B road.

My biggest bugbear is the interior, damn it looks cheap. I know they are built to a budget but was a expecting something a bit better than the scratchy surfaces, silver painted plastic bits and cheap looking seats, controls and dials.

I've only driven a couple of GT86's so couldn't compare to the BRZ but did really enjoy the manual (the auto is a bit pointless).

Unfortunately I do have an addiction to power but huge respect to Toyota/Subaru for the development though, it's very very nice to drive and I've never found anything as easy to control on the limit (or even over it). Maybe the relatively low power output has something to do with that though.

Back on GT86 or BRZ, they look (and I imagine drive) so similar I'm sure it will boil down to if you're tight (like me) you'd buy a GT86 but if you value exclusivity then you'd go for the BRZ.

Had a GT86 for 3 months, Felt like it would fall off the road most of the time, lots of noise from the engine, but no go. I'm guessing the BRZ is the same.

Well after both the Renault and Vauxhall dealers didn't get back to me about test drives of the Megane 265 and Astra VXR (Went to both in person, neither had one to test, said there would be one in "next week sir" and never phoned me back) I'm starting to seriously consider a GT86. Both those cars would be way faster but also lots more to run, the VXR has an image problem, the Renault I have doubts about reliability and I've always wanted to own a RWD.

Getting a GT86 test drive was no problem. Went out for 30 mins and loved it. Coming from a DSG car I forgot how much I missed a manual and I'm still smiling months later about it. Hoping to change maybe this time next year for a used one. Prices are coming down nicely and after signing up to the GT86 forums it's nice to see there's lots of mods available already. Boot with seats down flat is ample and there are roof bars available too so it's still relatively practical.

I'm seriously considering the US spec version (Scion FRS) as a second car in couple of months' time. They look stunning in the metal, and full list price here is about $25,000. That probably translates to around $26.5k drive away off the lot. Very few available second hand here which augurs well for eventual resale value.

"232 HP (171 kW). This will be achieved thanks to a bump in rev beyond 7,500 rpm and variable control system tweaks, as the sports car will not be turbocharged because the lack of space for the intercooler."

Sounds like great news. This will be far better than a dull turbo!

Toyota you had better step up!

Does anyone know why the US spec car is almost a second quicker to 60 than the uk one - without making assumptions?

If they do claim 6.7s I don't think that's possible without using magazine tricks like a grippy track with very little fuel, a light driver and 2ft of 'rollout' before timing. Then the car probably would do 0-60 in 6.7s.
Toyota UK claim the GT86 does 0-100km/h or 0-62 in 7.6s. Tested in the same way I don't think the 0-60 would be below 7s unless 100km/h or 62mph requires third gear and 0-60 doesn't. It's only a bit quicker than the US-market Mx-5 which is slightly more powerful than the UK one (170hp vs 160hp, I think). Still anybody 'buying by the numbers' would buy a hot hatch so that's kinda missing the point of the car anyway.

Maybe some of the horses escape from under the bonnet of UK cars?
