Recommend me a used car vehicle inspection

I'm about to venture into the used car market (03 / 04 Discovery 2) and may be buying from a private seller, so I'd like to have a thorough inspection done. Are they all much the same or is there any companies to avoid? RAC / AA / other?

Also, if the vehicle is checked out and then a problem occurs that they should have picked up, is there any recourse / insurance to rectify?
