They put in a tonne of effort and then put THAT stereo and console in there - plastic, plastic, plastic - such a shame really...
They sure knew how to appeal to the older generation!smile

I'm a big Alpina fan, but, I would rather have the ZT260 myself.
Each to their own, Horses for courses etc, but i cannot think of a single area the MG would out perform the Alpina, apart from being British..
Does it need to out perform in any area to still be of interest?
Exactly, they are very interesting cars. If you bought one, I don't think you would lose any money on it, and, there will be a time when values of good cars start to rise!

It drives as sweet as a nut, returns 37mpg.
How the effing hell are you managing that?!!! I'm getting about 25mpg on a long run at 70mph in my V6 ZT slushbox!
The ZT doesn't have different gearing does it? 37mpg is what i get at 70mpg on cruise control.

Stef
Looks like the manuals had altered ratios so perhaps the autos did too. Does yours have a Sport/Economy switch?

Still, the car was so cheap that I'm not too worried about the fuel costs smile

it's got the cop motor

as far as american V8's go, the ford modular is a bit of a boat anchor in all honesty.

Has a nice sound to it though.

Ah back in the day when she was still a baby smile New owner has done some mod to the standard exhausts which make them sound better. Wouldn't mind doing it to mine.

I have to say that if I ever replace my 260, it will be with a TVR but I suspect I will fit a supercharger before I get rid of it biggrin

The 260 is said to be the most reliable 75/ZT made with the diesel being the most expensive to maintain. I love TVR's...which one you got?

moved on again from the tvr,
last two have been chimaera's
great cars...
but another age related crisis has led me to pass my bike test and buy a Yamaha r6.

Be like us sensible people....have a 260 and a TVR wink Have had the 260 for 6 years and (tempting fate) it's been very reliable, cheap to service, well made and a great family car with great brakes and handling. Fuel and tyres obviously cost a bit but that's no surprise. Depreciation - probably £3.5k in 6 years and 38K miles so can't complain about that.
Loads of comments from people on here who have obviously never been in one let alone drive one. Would love to supercharge mine - the car is a 'keeper'.

Yes it has, haven't tried it in sport yet though.

I've had my MG 260 SE since Jan 2009. I bought it as a standard car with 6400 miles on the clock. In Feb 2011 at 11400 miles I fitted a Roush Supercharger, its had a few other body mods since i bought it i.e. OEM side and rear skirts, front splitter and a ZT385 rear spoiler. The standard car has great torque in 3rd and 4th and can compete with most hot hatches between 50 and the speed limit :-) The car was transformed once I supercharged it, I'm as quick of the mark as most 30 to 50K cars and to be honest that's not bad for a 8.5 year old Rover. Just recently I've out gunned (twice) a much lighter Lotus Elise from a standing start. I get interest in the car when parked up or when I occasionally visit a garage. (average 20 mpg best 27 mpg) it turns heads whilst driving through town as people hear some sort of muscle car and see a Rover 75. I also enjoy the looks on the faces of various hot hatch drivers and the odd Audi and BMW & Lotus driver when the same Old mans car out drags them. I think real PH guys n girls will "get the car". For all others, if you know someone with one try and get a ride. Then and only then will the non believers ' get it'. And if you don't! It's not a problem as most owners enjoy their cars anyway no matter what others think. After all each to their own as they say.
