Hi Adam, i'm still plodding along....it's a tough job you know!
Please don't tell me how "tough" it is, I get depressed enough at the lack of all things car related over here Ok, how about just flying over to Cali to join us either this year or next year then?

I moved over to Adelaide quite a few years ago now. I can tell you wearing a tee shirt and strolling along the beach in the middle of winter has its pleasures but its a bit lacking in other area's Ok, how about just flying over to Cali to join us either this year or next year then?
That would be the plan, fly direct to Cali via Hawaii but TBH its a bit of a pipe dream for now. Still, I might scrape enough together for next year and a drive in a C7 would be pretty epic for me At least the GF is up for it, the once anyway
Glad even in the recession these tours are doing okay for you.
Edited to say I have just remembered its my 40th next year, thats got to be worth spending some cash on man math style

Just returned rom California today. Trip included drive down PCH southwards (the better direction as you're then on the ocean side of the road). It was very enjoyable, but as some have said/hinted above, do not go there expecting a "driving" road. It is first and foremost a scenic road, to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Blasting down it would be a) frowned upon by the sedate locals, b) missing the point of PCH1. Take your time, stop a lot, enjoy the view over the Pacific.
PCH runs through both stunning landscapes as well as rather run-down villages. But even the latter are of interest, if you go with an open mind to "experience" California in all its facets.
Monterey seems to be getting a lot of stick here - don't see that it was so bad, especially if you' re looking to go whale watching (which we did, and saw many). Carmel is indeed more attractive, but in a rather sugary way, and in recent years, some of the shops are being taken over by the better known brands, which is definite step in the wrong direction. Monterey is in many ways more authentic (the town, not so much the wharf).
Anyway, bottom line: go, enjoy and make up your own mind!
We loved it.

Thread bump, but does anyone know if any of those on the trip have a blog running this year? I was very close to booking a last minute space but have put it off until next year to do it with a mate rather than solo.
Not that I'm aware of but we're having a great time! Currently in Vegas and just about to get up and jump in the Vette to head down to Ihop for breakfast before starting the tour again with a trip through Death Valley
