Back to the original question: It's worth noting that production volume of the F-Type are quite low. So I'd expect slightly slower depreciation than the average Jag.

Great car to drive and brings a smile to your face every time. I bought mine to replace my Caterham so practicality is certainly not an issue and presently still enjoying it just as much.

BTW my S-Types residuals fell horrendously in the first year 10 years ago, so perhaps there's some truth in it!

As much as I commend you for buying the Jag over a top spec Merc, Audi or BMW, I feel 90% over 3 years is a bit ambitious. Even colour and spec won't save you, take a look at a Jaguar XKRS. Cracking motor, horrific residuals!

I'm a long way off being a Jag fan, the last decent looking one being the XJS IMO, but I've seen a couple of these on the roads now and think they're stunning looking cars

Eh? You must be joking? Or perhaps "Should have gone to Specsavers"?

Not that fond of the interior as I prefer the old wood finish cabins in Jaguars but is near perfect from the outside.

I also think the residuals will hold up as convertible Jaguars are better than normal saloons. for that reason you can ignore S-Type (pretty unloved by most anyway) and XF examples. I can't seem to find a drop top XK at a reasonable price frown

If I had (much) deeper pockets I'd have one tomorrow. but it would be a keeper so the depreciation would become meaningless at some stage. How much has an E-type owner lost on their car had they kept if from new?

Of course if some plank crashes into it that rather spoils the investment plan frown

No too different to other barges and luxury cars.. etc though..

my A8 was over 60k new. cost to me at 3 years old and 36k miles.. £20k...

However there seems to pretty big interest in these at the moment and if the second hand demand is strong I guess that'll keep the values high.

As for those bemoaning the small boot... really? I'm a little confused, There's plenty of sports cars with utterly useless boots out there, I can think of more with tiny storage than I can with anything you could get a set of golf clubs in or enough gear to go camping for a week. I'd suggest an estate if "lots of storage" is a priority! smile

Will be interesting to see if the love affair with these continues or if it fizzles out..

This isn't being deliberately awkward but I love the F-Type, bar the boot size which I think is verging on unmanageably small. I'd want to use it every day and I think even a weekend away could be difficult in one.

I'm not sure it's the kind of car that I'd fancy putting a boot rack on.

Edit - Just checked on Parkers and for example a Porsche 911 (996) only has 100 litres of boot space so is the Jag that bad? I guess you can throw things on the back seat on a Porsche.

Im definately in the minority but I have to agree, every picture and video i've seen of it has done nothing for me. Its definately not hideous, im just ambivalent about it. Maybe i'll change my mind if I see one in the flesh. Lately i've really started to like the 2004 6-Series so maybe im just going a bit blind.

smile I don't agree though. It's an expensive car but it not THAT expensive. Especially if you buy the V6.

PCP quote from Jaguar gives an indication of where they expect it to go... £72k V6S turns into a GMFV of under £30k after 3 years and 36 k miles.

As far as the boot is concerned, even without a spare wheel it would be impractical for more than a few days touring, as its not just small but also very shallow so you can't maximise the limited space available.

The Jag coupe/convertible market has for years been primarily middle-aged gentlemen pottering to the golf club. So a boot that fits a set of golf clubs was all they needed to give the F-type and it's all they gave it.

Depreciation will IMO depend on whether the F-type is seen as more attractive than the XJS and XK, neither of which would light the fire of a serious sports car buyer. In round numbers all cars lose about 50% of their value in the first three years. Then IMO another 50% in the next 3. I reckon you're looking at least 5 years before you see a £25k car and that'll be well used V6.

The well specced V8 at my local dealer is currently £90,000. Too rich for me!

PS If you want a cheap V8 Maseratis enjoy spectacularly steep depreciation!
