Is the 760li not a competitor in many respects?
I'd say "no" because it's not really marketed as a "sporty" version, just a fast one. Hence it lacks all the various chassis "improvements" that things like AMGs, Ms etc. tend to get. I'd imagine the BMW is rather more relaxed in the way it goes about things. Liquid Knight said:
Had a go in an XJS 3.6 manual and loved the old girl. Shame only the TWR V12 had three pedals.
Great cars. Yes, a shame they didn't put the Getrag 290 5 speed in the later V12's. The X300 XJ was the last Jaguar model to have a manual 'box option of course, the X300 XJR manual is becoming quite a valued classic now. I'd love one, proper driving machine!

A 6 speed manual XJS V12 would be a lovely thing.

There is a growing scene where people have been putting a Tremac 6 speed manual box in a V12 XJS. There is a kit from the US with everything you need for about £3k.

I believe that there is also a kit to convert the previous-gen XK to a manual gearbox. In fact I think that someone on this forum is involved (NormanD?)A 6 speed manual XJS V12 would be a lovely thing.

I hadn't come across that, doesn't sound a bad idea at all. Would be a lovely motor to own and drive for sure.A 6 speed manual XJS V12 would be a lovely thing.

When launched, the XJS was available as a manual.
Yes, they had a 4 speed manual option with the early pre-HE V12's, rare now.22rgt B Squadron said:
Pretty awful looking thing and with those ridiculously low profile 30 series tyres its not going to be pleasant riding in it for any period of time. Have the 265mm width with a more sensible 45 or 50 profile and the as described jittery ride would be gone..
Low profile tyres don't equal poor ride, despite what car magazines tell you.Wadeski said:
These halo jags are just to help brush off the "Jags are for old boys" image. Even the original XJR was never taken seriously as an M5 rival outside of the fawning UK press. And these big, thirsty cars need to be competitive in the USA where people still buy big, thirsty cars. You even see young people in 7ers and S-classes....
My guess is that is because every car enthusiast who has eyeballs and isn't clinically dead knows that the XJ is a 7 series rival and comparisons to a 5 series would be stupid. Of course with the importance you give to being taken seriously, you knew this and were joking right? I mean otherwise you'd be advertising that you don't know your subject and should be commenting on mumsnet instead...Krikkit said:
Looks great, but I can't help thinking the Jaguar engineers have lost their way - what happened to ride quality? This, the XFR-S and the F-type have all been criticised for their ride quality...
Think the same. Jag are so eager to get this 'bling' out, they are going all 'Audi'......never thought I'd say it but I'm going off Jags. The CX-75 is the only car that gets it right from all perspectives, but that's been 'suspended'....

£100k though?
Which makes it a bit of bargain, compared to an AMG S63:£100k though?
