Not really you have been a prat and feigned innocence.

You have previous for this it seems.

Jog on son, find another chump.

I was in a similar situation recently and got similar set of replies on here.

I had a plate similar to T400 GJD on a car i bought, wasn't fussed about it and would prefer an age related plate (since the T made the car look older if anything). I was going to get the DVLA to take it off not bothering with retention (this is free).

However I figured I would list it on all the number plate sites - I had to put a value on the plate I would take for it. I left it on the car all this time.

After 4 weeks or so someone bit and gave plates4less a bunch of cash for it and I got a cheque for £150, no hassle. My only cost was £11 for a new set of plates for my new age related number.

So I would do that if I were you, dream up a figure you are happy with and list it. Only issue is that you are selling the car, so you need it gone ASAP as its probably not worth the cost of putting on retention.

I think the shorter the plate the more valuable, so yours should be worth a chunk more than my £150.

What happens then?

Does ownership revert back to the DVLA and go to auction?
Nope, once it's gone, it's gone. DVLA don't re-issue expired numbers.
I let S55 PSG lapse for over two years, but a letter and one phone call saw me get it back for a small fee and now it lives once more on my TVR (as seen in profile pic)

It is possible to get them back, or maybe I was just lucky.
But you'd had it on retention. If a car is scrapped, for example, with a number on it then it won't be back unless you can ressurect the car from the grave with an MOT.
