I have had this exactly, just without the cutout.
A dying battery sends the ecu mental. My 6 went crazy, windows all over the place warning lights and so on.
The I-drive era of cars take a lot of power, so even a small drop is enough. I'm willing to bet you had no problems with airbags radio and mirror, they will all be symptoms of a dead battery.

Seriously?!?

You've had a low oil light, a couple of minor electrical glitches and a flat battery on a 9 year old, 95000 mile car.
The dealer hasn't even near at the car to rectify any of this and you want to reject it?

I despair at the modern car buyer sometimes.

Leave car with dealer. Dealer will fix car. Car will be fine.

I can't even begin to comprehend why rejecting the car has even crossed your mind.
You buy a new (to you) car from a dealer and it stops dead in the middle of the road. That would seriously piss me off and shake you up enough to think getting rid was the best course of action, albeit a knee jerk reaction, you can understand why.

This is the line that worried me about all this!
I bought the car and on the way home the engine light came on, saying the oil pressure is too low, called the dealer he said to go home and check the engine oil. So went home called RAC, they confirmed that the engine oil was low so they topped it up.

I'd be annoyed, and wanting it fixed sharpish but that happened because the battery went flat.
Change battery, problem solved.

I still can't understand how rejection would come into it, or how one would expect it to be an option.

90% chance that a new battery will make the car happy and that will be the end of the gremlins. Good luck OP.

It needs a new battery as has been said, they can't cock this up so just givd them chance.

I did get a full refund once. The car i bought broke down 5 times in a month, it only had one issue but the barmy mechanic threw loads of parts at it each time which were common known faults on the car, they then replaced the headgasket but didn't check the head! it was the head that was cracked and he refused to fix it in the end. I told them time and time again that it was serious but apparently they knew better!

so, in a nutshell, just give them a chance.

I don't see how a duff battery can cause the car to stop in the middle of a dual carriageway? Surely it's running from the alternator at that time?

Hey guys,

Thought I would share my stories with you and may be get some legal advise.

So I bought this BMW 5 series, 530d, 2004, E60 car from a dealer on friday 16th of august. That car did about 95000 miles, seemed fine.

I bought the car and on the way home the engine light came on, saying the oil pressure is too low, called the dealer he said to go home and check the engine oil. So went home called RAC, they confirmed that the engine oil was low so they topped it up.

Then, the DRIVERS AIRBAG IS FAULTY sign came up, also it was showing that the HEAD UNIT IS NOT CODED CORRECTLY on the dash board..Also, after close inspection, I realised that the cd's volume button doesn't work.

Any way, I told the dealer about it, he said the airbags wire is loose so to bring it back to him and he will fix it, also, when I was buying, one of the side mirror was not working, he said he will fix the motor as it might need new motor, so I called him today he told me to bring the car back on monday.

Now, THE NIGHTMARE TONIGHT, I was driving that car to see a friend and all of a sudden on a dual carriage way the car just stops, yeah all the warning signs came on and it stopped... I was in the middle of dual carriage way and put the hazard lights on and it wouldn't turn on either!!!

Yeah, my life did flash in front of me for a while, any way, the police came they towed the car away then RAC came and told me that the battery is totally gone, it needed a new battery.

Mind you, the car stopped near the dealer, but it was around 10pm, so rac towed the car and I left the car out side the dealers place now. Called the dealer but they wouldn't answer after 11pm.

Now, what options do I have? Can I ask for a full refund? I really don't trust them to repair the car. Am I covered under the trading standard law as its not even been 7 days since I bought it and if I go to court then can I get the full refund of the money? I got police and RAC as witness of these incidents.

Seriously, my hands are still shaking, just got home on a cab, paid about £40 cab fare.. Not really happy you know..

LH
I feel sorry for you, although I am amazed and astonished that people only bother to find out what there rights are after the fact.....

Also if the car is as bad as you say it makes me wonder if you actually inspected it and checked it before buying.

That aside, all your legal info is nicely contained here and explains your rights in detail: http://sogahub.tradingstandards.gov.uk/

Hi, have you ever posted on Digital Spy?

You kill me, like a dealer is going to be open much past 6pm, let alone 11pm.

Look, give them a chance to rectify the faults. If they don't, come back here and name and shame them, you'd be surprised how much clout this website has!

I seem to remember reading that modern BMWs are particularly sensitive to poorly batteries.... sounds a distinct possibility

I believe naming and shaming is against PH policy, so please don't do this. It's also quite a childish activity as there is always more than one side to every story.

They can, see my post above.

Needs to be coded to the car, not just swapped out.

Even my 1992 E32 gets rather agitated when the battery is low.

I wouldn't have much faith in a dealer that allows its cars to leave with the engine oil level critically low amongst other things either.

The cars a dog, its about to blow up, I will give you £1500 to help you out

Seriously

New battery all will be good e60 very sensitive to batteries, get a decent one on there and you will be fine

I have a 330d same year, had very strange issues when battery died, and e60s are more sensitive

If it inspires confidence, I bought my 330d 3.5 years as on 32k, it now has 180k on, still pulls like the week after I purchased it and remapped, decated it

How much did you pay for this car, out of interest? and did you get an RAC / AA check on it first? (if more than 2K I would always get a check done). Good luck getting it sorted though.

Bugger the battery, I'd be more concerned that the oil level dropped low enough for the oil pressure warning light to come on.

Also where did the oil go?
