Oh dear, I suspect that most of the motoring public don't factor depreciation into their monthly costs either...

They're also including free insurance on the 208, presumably that's only the first year and I'd guess not available to some drivers (age, experience, points etc)

To think, all these years I have been totally oblivious to the way new cars deprecitate hehe

They do seem to have focussed on the details they want to promote and ignored the ugly details, such as depreciation!

Where are these new Peugeot 208s that sell for the same price as 5 year old ones?

I don't know where they get their fuel figures from on a 3 year old Peugeot 208, or rather a future model.

Spend an extra £5,000 on your car and save £700 a year. Brilliant! Is Gordon Brown now working at yahoo?

Or buy a cheap shed that costs you hundreds a month to keep going? Our Bini Cooper costs about £1200 a year to maintain, even with lowish mileage.

Quote "But by comparison, a Porsche Cayenne diesel bought today for £47,390 is predicted to lose £7,488 of its value - 15.8% - over three years" surely they got this bit wrong and meant per year...

Both really poorly researched articles and hugely inaccurate.

Most of my cars have been cheap sheds, I might once have spent £1000 in maintenance in a year but most years it's less than half that.
