And I don't necessarily believe what I read in car magazines either.
What has always interested me about the figures is that they were two-up with at least half a tank of fuel and the timing gear (complete with fifth wheel!), but the acceleration and top speed times were always markedly better than those advertised by Porsche.

When new the 220PS 944 Turbo was tested at 157mph by two separate magazines. Are you now going to tell me that the press cars actually had 60bhp over the factory specification?
Apologies, I was basing my figures on 150mph, not 157, even though I'd quite clearly read it.

A quick re-run of my shoddy numbers, and mathcad says 275bhp would get you to 170mph. So it would appear you were pretty accurate in the first place.

Slippery little bugger, isn't it?

Hmm, not sure about that. Calculating friction from your power and speed, correcting the friction for the higher speed by dividing by 150^2 and multiplying by 170^2 (bit of an assumption, but it's not that bad) and you'd be needing around 315bhp for 170mph.
Drag rises with the square of speed, but power requirements rise with the cube of speed (roughly).

So, just to clarify, you got a speeding ticket for doing 43 in a 40?

And you managed 150mph on track in your Seat, alongside someone else on the same track day in their 650? Surely that's not what you're saying, that's ridiculous.
I can't think of many (if any) tracks in this country where a car so heavy and comparatively slow could hit 150mph?
Bruntingthorpe, if you carry enough speed out of the corners.

This forum really is fked isn't it. mad

I used to love coming on PH. Now I have to sift through mountains of self indulgent weiners trying to be the most 'ph' by ripping someone to shreds. Thank god for the Sunday Service and actually meeting people or I'd sack this place off entirely.

It makes me almost want to remove my smiley for people thinking I might act like a fking child as well.

I wonder how many persecutors out there that make it their lives work to fk over some poor chap looking to bounce some ideas about or harmlessly want to find an old owner of their car, have actually been to SS, BT&P etc etc or whether they are just a thin veil of what PH really is. Proper motoring enthusiasts who take the brotherhood of enjoying cars seriously enough to want to meet likeminded people.

If you're one of those self indulgent weiners then take yourself outside and have a word with yourself and come back and act like a grown up. If you can't do that then fk off.

Agree wholeheartedly. You can trot out the usual lines about this being the internet/ph/whatever, but there's not much glory here. Distinct lack of live and let live.

Good post. It doesn't matter a jot the subject, there'll be 'I call bullst', 'you are disgraceful and a danger to the public', and 'spelling and grammar pedantry' aspects.
A lot of people who are probably decent chaps at the PH events turn into utter cretins on the forum.
I would say this place used to be good, but it's been the same since when I joined.

I'll leave this here:

Although the vid states 370bhp, I'd expect one of these to be around 340bhp at the crank with the mods stated.

Standard power is around 210/225 ps/bhp

Yes, but that is a long way from a standard Cupra R so not really relevant in this case.

The Cupra R was a very good car for it's time, for what it cost I don't think there was anything else that came near it in terms of value for money. I have very fond memories of some very interesting early morning PistonHeads runs and of hearing the turbo at full pelt for extended periods of time wink Getting through a set of front tyres every 10k and 3 sets of discs in the 60k miles I did in it was a bit of an eye opener though, it will be interesting to see how the ST that I now drive compares with this.

Yes, I'm aware that is a long way from standard, that's the point of me posting it.

Although I have no doubt a standard Cupra R producing somewhere near book power will eventually drag itself past 150mph given a long enough run up, an example with a shed load more power is certainly batting eyelids as it gets over 140.

Ah, yes see what you mean now smile It certainly got there pretty quickly though, I bet that was a bit of a monster to drive. When I tried the Revo map it turned the car into a bit of an animal and that upped the power to around the 260 mark if I remember correctly. I decided that the standard car was good enough for me in the end, I think my driving licence may not have survived if I had a permanent remap.
