My dream car; massive supercars do nothing for me, these do a lot and vaguely attainable (if the business remains healthy) one day too.

A new Ferrari 430 was £117K at launch, the 458 is approx £173K plus extras. Pretty sure you fill find most other marques have also inflated their prices.

It is an engineering marvel as was the 991 Gen 2 with the PDK box. I would love to own one; staggering everyday usability and performance. If the GT-R was not around, this would look like a bargain too.

The way this article runs, its almost a case of straight line, floor it, hang on.

I dont get where the Turbo is anything like a GT3, carving corners, etc. The whole point of digital vs analogue plays where, exactly, in this car then?

For that reason alone, I'd suggest the GTR.

The closest Porsche can come to toppling the GTR is in the GT3. And even then, I'd still go the GTR, simply due to the massive cost difference.

Did you miss this bit: "I cannot conceive of another road car that matches the Turbo S for performance on a twisting road"?

Its a bit extreme, adjusting prices for inflation is fair enough, but this does take the piss.

With the 458, it suits the £170k + price tag.

As much as a Porsche fan I am, fk paying £140k for a done up Beatle.

They always say that.

I love Porsche, I really do, but this thing is too expensive and the GT-R is just too good and easily tuneable.

As all-weather, premium, high tech, turbo nutter cars go, the GTR would, partly because it's much cheaper, get my vote.

I should rephrase that!

I am a massive Porsche fan and always have been, they're a great second hand buy if you want a lot of power for a reasonable outlay, but £140,000 is a huge amount of money, thats a 360CS with 50k to spare!

Even buying new there is plenty more choice that suits the bigger price tag!

Personally it wouldn't be my choice, but:

Amongst this there are DB9's.SLS's etc.

All of which are a more premium than a 911T IMO

Ummmmm, how is that comparable? Firstly, it's not new. Secondly, it gives away 1.0 second to 60. That's 25% or 33% slower depending on how you want to calculate it.. Thirdly, doesn't it weight about 2.3 tonnes? I know the 991 isn't light, but how are they comparable.....

I have been in a GT-R, it was a truly awful experience. Yes it was thunderously quick but the ride was absolutely shocking, the turning circle was a joke and the drive-line shunt laughable. Maybe viable as a track day weapon or 3rd car but not a daily driver.

I have spent a lot of time lately in GTR's and 997 Turbos and I have to say that I simply don't agree with this statement.

The GTR does have a pretty stiff ride, but that is about tire choice in the main. Ditching the runflats for Michelins Pilots makes a huge difference. And it must be said also that GTRs have been steadily evolved over the years. A post 2011 model is a lot more comfortable and sorted than an early 08/09 model.

Recent GTRs make perfectly acceptable daily drivers.

In short, don't dismiss the GTR just because you were a passenger in a rough early model. They have evolved and refined over the years even though the appearance has not changed ( a rather Porsche-like quality ironically..)

I too have spent lots of time in both the gtr gen2 and 997.2 turbo including track time, and to be honest if you are judging purely on performance, feel and feedback these are not the cars to chose. They are both too heavy, and when compared to track cars, too remote or lacking feel.

For me the GTR is too big/heavy, only has looks its mother will love and even with the gen2 I have an issue with quality/ps3 looks inside.

For the new 991 turbo s it's just too expensive. Optioned up ( yes are still you should have such things as sun roof, rear wiper, leather this and that smile) it's around £150k. There are other niggles such as the Dvla model number on the back.

Would I have both if my lotto number came up? - yep in a heart beat! Both would be a real hoot on a public road in all weathers and all conditions, and for me beats most garage queens on daily entertainment value for the whole year hehe

Ironic how everyone is after the fastest car then when one of the quickest cars comes out, it's too clinical...

I can't think of a better all rounder for our often grotty roads.
