Car report woe

I've been seriously thinking of importing an old muscle car from the States this year.
I found one I really liked and over the space of several weeks and dozens of emails back and forth established a good relationship with the seller and became more and more certain that it was for me.
Then it hit a snag.
I paid $400 for an inspection of the car and although the vendor had described it pretty accurately the 211 photos showed that it wasn't quite as good as he obviously thought it was.
This unfortunately meant that the total cost was going to be some what more than the car was ever going to be worth even though a professional restorer of these cars told me thought it looked a decent car. It all came down to value for money though.
So I emailed the seller yesterday and told him that with deep regret I was going to pull out.
I had a reply and, obviously upset, he told me that basically I'd wasted his time and the report was flawed (although the pictures told their own story).
There's no way he's going to drop the price further, particularly as he thinks its worth more) so that's that.
Apart from the money I'd invested a lot of time and emotion in finding my dream car so today I'm feeling a bit down at the situation and at letting the vendor down.
Cheer me up!

Importing old cars from the States is fraught with problems like that.

As the others said.
You at least managed to get out only $400 dollars down.

You did it right and listend to the expert you employed.
You didnt let the seller down at all. He cant expect you to employ someone to check it out and then ignore there advise.
I think you should feel happy with yourself and start afresh with that little bit more knowledge.

I did briefly post a link but then decided it wasn't fair to the seller and deleted it.
It wasn't that exciting though!
