Alright, so let me outline my situation.

I'm 19 years old, 1 years no claims on my own insurance comes up soon (YAY!), I also have just over a year claim free driving on my parents car that I used before I got my own. Okay the car I have now is a Peugeot 206 1.4 HDi, 02 plate, just ticked over 44,000 miles, mint condition. Why do I have this car? Well my mum bought it when I passed my driving test and had it on her own insurance, I was insured as a named driver on the main family car which at the time was a 2006 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi Sport (thank god for fleet insurance, eh?). by the end of 2012 I had a full time job, was 18 and really needed my own car (I live way out in the countryside so transport isn't great) so after looking around for a few months I didn't find much that was in good condition, cheap to insure and run etc, so I ended up buying my the 206 that I have now off my mum. I've had the little 206 long enough now and to be honest I absolutely hate it, it's slow, the steering wheel is massive, it rolls around and the driving position is horrid.

Now that insurance isn't as high as it was when I first passed my test I've decided I'd like a new car, I want something fun and quick, what would you suggest? I was thinking something like a Clio 172, Fiesta ST or a Civic Sport (ideally I'd like a Type R but insurance is just too much frown) I'm open to any suggestions you may have smile

Ford Puma or Suzuki Ignis. I'd have thought the 2.0 hatches will still be pricey to insure.

I was going to say ford puma and ignis sport aswel. Both great fun little cars that cost buttons to run. Also consider a mk5 fiesta zetec s, i had one for around 3 years and it was a cracking little car. 172s and the like will still be very expensive to insure at your age.

The swift sport is a cracking little car far better than I expected it to be, my money would go on a 205 gti on a classic insurance policy.

If you can afford the insurance on a Clio 172 then you will almost certainly love the performance and handling, if not the rather odd driving position.

Mk1 Focus!

I just had a loan of a 13 year old focus 1.6 Zyrtec s and it's a smashing little thing. Worth maybe £1500, on a good day. Best handling (in the pure sense of handling cause it ain't that grippy) front drive car I've driven in a long time.

I hadn't thought of a Puma or Suzuki Ignis! Only problem is finding a good example that's not too far away to go and look at :/

Classic or new?

My driving instructor had a 2006 Cooper and it was pretty nice to drive, would have to be the right colour or it will look a bit girly haha wink

Just be aware of the ride on the Ignis if you do any long journeys. Tiresome would be a kind way to describe it. Awesome on track though.

Get a big car. The girls will love you... seriously.

Get a 4 or 5 door something. Like an Isignia. Has to be fairly new.

MGF, early ones are in the classic insurance range and far better than you would imagine. Failing that the forum default of MX5, slower, rusty and dire on fuel but still fun.

For slower speed fun an MGB. Look after it and it will work.

If you need a roof / 4 seats. MG ZR even the 105 is a laugh.
