A friend and I are in the early planning stages of a road trip next summer up to Knivskjellodden in Norway. Would be a pretty quick affair, done over the course of two weeks or so, probably going up there the quickest way possible through Sweden and coming back at a more relaxed pace through Norway. We'll both be 21, and the car is not going to be anything special (probably my Mondeo if I still have it).

I'm having a bit of trouble finding companies that will offer insurance to cover a single trip outside of the EU, I know that they must exist because of people doing things like banger rallies, so if anybody could give any pointers on where to look I'd really appreciate it! smile

Have you checked your insurance policy? Most provide cover for up to 30 days per year.

3rd party insurance will normally be valid in Norway. Wouldn't care about comprehensive cover in a 'safe' country like Norway given a non-fkwit driver who takes the normal precautions or a car of the value you mention.

Should add: watch drink driving limits- they are extremely low. Even a modest drink the night before could see you over.

Should have said, my policy is 9 days EU-only. It is possible to extend it, but because Norway is not in the EU I don't believe it would be covered?

Regarding drink-drive limits, useful information so thank you! This is new territory for both of us, so it's a bit of a learning curve atm biggrin

Edit: Realise I've got a renewal before then so I suppose I could just find a policy that includes it, but as with mine now aren't most of them just within the EU as opposed to all of Europe?

It's not EU only, by law they have to give cover for EU and other European countries party to the agreement, which includes Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, etc etc.

Read your policy carefully; most will define 'Europe' as the Schengen zone, not the EU, which includes Norway.
