I've seen you post this before, would you include the RS models as an old shopping car?
Yes. Regardless of the model they in no way justify their value. In much the same way a 3 door Cosworth isn't worth £30-40k. Old Fords command stupid prices for no reason that I can understand. The only exception to this rule is the GT40.

No problem, you're entitled to your opinion. I just don't see the likes of my Evo 9 in the bracket of 'shopping car', and it's essentially the Escort of today.

I once had a brilliantly sorted 4wd turbo nutter mobile with new suspension from the top mounts down. I replaced the scuffed and shabby 16" wheels for 18" wheels. It looked like a tarmac rally car. It did not improve the way it drove. It took me 2 years to admit this to myself.

I really like our beaten up old saab.

I quite fancy an E class estate.

I have a soft spot for small cheap fiats. I don't know why.

My Elise managed 800 miles last year.

I preferred my 306 D-Turbo over my NB mk2.5 MX5 1.8 Icon :O

the MX5 was only better in 10/10th's nutter mode.

I don't find Porsches exciting. I admire them but don't feel the lust the way I do with an NSX, VX220 or pretty much everything made in Italy from an Uno turbo to Zonda.

The nearest I've got to finding a Porsche I'd like is a 968CS, the fastest Porsche I've driven had a V10.

I do believe that the Mazda RX-8 is the best piece of machinery ever designed and that it will never be topped.
Seriously?

I really love the Bugatti Veyron, but I don't really care for the Mclaren F1. It's wheels are too small and I don't like the central driving position.

I also don't really like the TVRs I've been in (Griffith and a Tamora). The Griffith I found uncomfortable and the Tamora stunk once it got hot. And it was ugly.

I don't get some of the love for old crappy cars on the Barge Bargains thread. Some of the cars on there are great, some on there are just old & were never that great to start with. Driving a 25 year old beige Mercedes with wind-up windows and horrible cloth seats does not mark you out as "someone in the know", it just makes you look like you're cheap.

I laugh at people who claim a RWD is more of a drivers car than a FWD when talking about a 1.8 turbo-diesel commuter car (e.g a 318d vs A4). I used to drive 800-1000 miles a week in a 330 convertible & never once got the back end out on the M62.

In 19 years Of driving I've only ever owned 2 cars with engines bigger than 2 litres.

And one of those was a diesel...

And I'm still driving it...

And for daily driving I actually prefer it.
So shoot me.

The MX-5 is not the answer to everything.

The Mx-5 isn't the answer to anything.

I've got one, and I'm selling it. As stated above, great for the occasional blast (on a very smooth road), useless at everything else.

I don't like convertibles, supercars don't interest me at all and the most enjoyable FWD car I've driven is a MkII Nissan Almera.

Who do I hand my membership card back to?

I 'think' I prefer RWD and have had plenty of fun sort of drifting on quiet corners and roundabouts. I really liked my E39 530i (that is very PH) and even enjoyed driving my C220 CDi. The best drivers car I have owned though was FWD (164 Cloverleaf 24V)...

And I really enjoy driving the Amarok as my daily...(its a diesel pickup so NOT PH), even after a 11 hour stint at the wheel and after 3 weeks and 3000miles in France.

Often it's not what you drive it's how, where and when you drive that makes it great.
I've had more fun with 50bhp than I've had with 350bhp.

Am I doing this right?

Why whats wrong with Turbo Diesels? Loads of Torque and great fuel economy
Dont get me wrong Petrol is good for fun, but for everyday grind diesel wins....
I've just spent the annual two weeks in France. In a diesel hire car. Grinding was one of the words that I would use. Others include rumbling, clattering and banging.

Me too. It's like going camping but then not putting the tent up and pretending it's somehow better than being in a hotel.

Hence the hard top on my Elise and MX5.

Also I don't "get" TVRs. I think some of them are pretty, and I really wish they were still around to sell powerful RWD british built sportscars. But I don't want one.

And CSLs are dull to drive on the road.

I liked driving the 2012 Mustang V6. Crude, but charming.

Golfs of any kind bore me, and every time someone says they have an R32 I get a little blip of interest before I realise they aren't talking about a Skyline.

I was 36 before I learnt how to spell "licence" correctly.

I haven't liked any Alfa since the 75. And I like the look of the 75.

My 2CV was fun to drive, and not too slow.

Drifting is the most fun thing I've ever done with a car, more fun than racing, more fun than setting a fast time.

I heart my diesel Jag XF. So much so, I wouldn't swap it for a 5.0 NA version.

Sometimes I have the opportunity to drive the M5 but don't because getting it out of the garage is a bit of a faff...
