The new premium sub brand for Ford cars, first up is the Mondeo Vignale, with chrome, 20" wheels, quilted leather, in car wifi, no badges that say Mondeo and probably other shiny and techy things. They'll have their own special section of the Ford dealer so you won't have to mingle with the Fiesta buying little people hehe

Other Vignale cars to come include the next S Max, and ST models might get a similar special service at the dealers.

Not content with destroying the legacy of Ghia.

Yup, they killed Ghia with this sort of tat. The 20" wheels are an obvious tell-tale that they have no intention of making this anything other than a "look at my shiny car" thing.

Vignale? Sounds like some kind of Aston Martin.

But since Ford nicked AMs radiator grille they might as well help themselves to some names as well!

Still don't know why they got rid of the Ghia name to be honest. Everyone knew what a Ghia Ford was, now trying to explain where a zetec, zetec s, titanium and titanium x fit into the model range, to people who know nothing about cars, is a nightmare. There's an ongoing argument at work at the moment, where two colleagues, have both just bought a Focus, one is adamant there Zetec is higher in the spec range, than the others Titanium is.

Okay yours might have leather but mine has sports suspension and seats, and lower-profile tyres, is a common overheard point.

ETA: Things were so much easier to understand when you had the LX, GL, GLX, Ghia, Sport, and maybe Sport 4x4 in the model range.

Of course, we would have all heard of Ghia if it hadn't been on posh versions of Fords and we are all familiar with the work of Vignale.

I bet mr Popularplus is turning in his grave as well.

They are all at it, Toyota started it with Lexus, Citoen seem to do ok with the DS range so Ford naturally want a piece, VAG are the masters of dressing stuff up though, genius.

I quite like that.

Is quilted leather the same as ruched? I love a ruch.

Sarcasm inappropriate - many here do know of them as coachbuilders first and spec levels second.

Totally different to creating a new brand like Lexus.

Yuk. I hate quilted leather. Looks like a chav's coat.

(I'd put up with it in a Bentley though, but not a blingy Mondeo)

It is a car seller in China. They love it. I look at a car with a lot of chrome (too much for the UK market) and a marketing guy will say it's not enough for China.

ETA: The Vignale logo is shocking. It doesn't match the car at all and reminds me of the logo for a video game more than a car. If anything it looks like the logo of a vulgar 'tuner' like Mansory. Also it's a very manly logo, I can't see a woman wanting to own a car with that on it.

It's definitely time for Ford to step into this market. The playing field is pretty level now, since the Germans lost their shine over the last decade. Whether this dire brown car with hideous leather trimming is the way to do it, I don't know, but I expect it will appeal to the taste deficient buyers in the East.

Vignale cars will be aimed at “time-poor, independent thinkers who want to be made to feel special”.

They still talk like that in the world of marketing? I was expecting "paradigm shift" and blues sky base touching to be in there at some point as well! I

It really does look like a cross between a Peugeot 508 and a Kia Cee'd. Talk about cars all looking the same these days. Shame really, as I quite liked the outgoing Mondeo...
