as per my previous post - i think you, mrpenks, should urgently phone Bentley. I think this because you have obviously done more research than their research and marketing department who are obviously so mistaken, because they think there is a market for this car. You clearly know better than them! In fact, they've probably not even spoken to ANY potential buyers, and you must have spoken to loads and thus clearly know better. It's hilarious, you'd think Bentley might know more about their car market than you, what with them being a multi-million pound company but obviously you're better informed.Better get on the phone quick!

Given how much more expensive this will be than any other SUV, you could say they're creating a market.For a long long time, a Range Rover was as upmarket as you could go for a 4x4, however much money you had. This'll poach the richest (ok naffest) RR customers from the top of their market.
sorry to be rude but saying there were mixed reaction to the styling is brutally hiding failure. the vehicle received mixed reaction with the majority being absolute negative to very negative to negative to slightly negative to neutral and to mansory gory fan club love. it was not mixed, it received an awful response. dare he say one they were hoping for? rubbish. i know bentleys were once called lorrys but not quite rubbish bin but it is getting there. it was pretty obvious, if bentley wanted to bend, making an suv, it had to do very well for acceptance, it did the very opposite saved only by that interior on a expensive looking dreary yet dreadful exterior.

Whether it looks good or not it will relegate the RR to just being staff cars following behind the owner. And it will more than double their volumes in key markets.

thats true, so true because in america, the bentley suv cant even come close to being beautiful as what this is.
i think in there some where is a formula as to why americans think they are so great because of having the highest GDP or biggest economy yet produce 30 times more necrophiliacs and serial killers or both than the entire world and i am not anti-american at all
My main problems with this visually are the sort of eagle's eyebrows over the headlights - why not treat the nose exactly like the Mulsanne - and that, like the Ferrari FF, the rear windscreen is too raked for practicality. W12 - why on earth? Surely the V8 is all the engine you can possibly need in a car like this.

Some of these lines remind me of the CX5, which looks kind of smartGreen lit for production in the last week or so.
The Bentley however, looks terrible imho.

It doesn't matter one jot what we think about this vehicle - PH'ers are not the target market. Ever since Porsche did the Cayenne and it became a raging success for them - which it still is, incidentally, every other premium brand planning manager has had an SUV project high up in their list of things to get done.
It will sell very well internationally. No idea who'll buy it in the UK market but judging by the current numbers of Range Rovers, Cayennes, X5's, A7's round my way (mostly driven by rather tiny women, incidentally) then I'm sure it will find a market. As will the new Jaguar SUV, when Jag finally get around to getting it into production.
In a perverse sort of way, perhaps we should be grateful. The Cayenne profits must help Porsche engineers make their case for more 911 spend to the accountants, and so on.. Ditto for Jaguar if their SUV turns out to be as profitable for them as the Cayenne has been (and still is) for Porsche. Now, if Bentley could use their SUV profits to then give us a much smaller and lighter Conti...

Surely the whole appeal of the continental GT is that it's big, comfortable and full of luxury and detracts from the boredom of driving. A lightweight stripped out small version goes against the entire Bentley ethos. I agree with the rest of your post though!

I'd want a GT for the exact reason it's big, heavy and has a wonderful interior. If I want light weight and focused I'd heading to Lotus.
