COL 1 on a S class. An embassy car?
1 MO on a 7 series. Not listed as an auction plate but 2-31 MO are?

Oh, I was thinking that if you imagine the '1' as a letter 'I', it says ITN. Or do I get a parrot for that?

At first glace, I saw ONE TEE EN, and thought why? Trevor's initials are TM. Then I got it. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was too slow to see ITN straight away.

It would be a cracking plate for one of their camera cars.

So, what's the cheapest 'single single' on the market currently? Either way round?
can't be many on sale and most on registration sites are up for fantasy money + the inevitable vat

this is advertised as the cheapest and I think it possibly is. I would imagine anything with a high number and an X or Z should be cheaper if they come up for sale.

Anything with a letter first is usually a lot more expensive (original issue)

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/parts-and-p...

Good investment?
It's only a guess but I'd be very surprised if a single letter Z didn't make very seious money if it ever came up for sale. As I understand it Z was originally a pre-partition Dublin plate issued at the very beginning of the last century.
Allegedly it is not possible to transfer between ROI and UK but evidence on this thread shows that it can be done.
If any were transferred pre 1922 none have been spotted by Shmee or any other plate spotter as far as I can tell.
If you want to get a handle on where prices might be, take a look at the prices being asked for old NI plates with any other letter and then a Z with a single digit. Crazy money!
Exactly right, ArmaghMan. Single Z was issued forward in 1927 and reverse in 1972 by Dublin. I'm not sure either of us are sure what the cut off date for being able to transfer was, but it was most likely around 1922; in which case neither variation could be on a UK car. Certainly I've just buzzed 1-9 both ways through car check and they are not on the database. I also concur re the values, which are driven by the rarity.

Correct. They asked the owner of S1 if they fancied allowing the Provost to have it, but he politely declined - so they just issued this 'because they could'. These are called Civic Specials, issued out of normal sequence; most others are 'normal', just out of synch, but as well as this there are also G 0 , V 0, RG 0, HS 0 and VS 0 - and LM 0 used by the Lord Mayor of London.

I saw "L7" on an Aygo on the Marylebone Road and was gutted I couldn't get a pic. One of my all time favourite plates - a lovely symmetry to it.

Caught this one though.

Is there a website where you can find out how much plates were bought for at DVLA auctions going back to the 90s?

Edit:

Found it http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/search/prev...

Seems it doesn't like it when you put the exact plate in...

It does, but you have to put it in 100% right - i.e. A123 BCD, A123BCD wouldn't be found.
