Nice one from yesterday

1 CAN. I'd have thought it would've been assigned to the Canadian Embassy or a company with Canadian links. But infact it was on an old Mondeo (10 years old or more). Good one for V expensive plate on a cheap car

Original issue perhaps?

The plate with the err . . . person that uses it.

(Why am I not surprised to see it on an Overfinch RR?)

DVLA u-turn on rude registration plate

Just a few weeks ago we reported on a rude bkS registration plate confiscated by the DVLA despite having offered it for sale themselves.

But who decides on what is a rude number plate, and what isn’t? Who decides what is offensive?

Generally, the DVLA will spot the registration plates deemed potentially ‘offensive’ for each release of registrations. The 11 series was a particular challenge because of the huge number of combinations available. And they can sometimes miss a few like this similar bkS number plate we wrote about in March this year.

Alan Clarke spotted a cheeky little registration plate BO11 LUX and snapped it up.

When the DVLA wrote to him, advising him it was deemed offensive and would be confiscated Mr Clarke wasn’t about to take it lying down. He wrote to secretary of state for transport Philip Hammond, referring to a court case in 1977 where Richard Branson successfully argued that the Sex Pistols’ album title Never Mind the B*****ks was not obscene. And that was all he needed to have the DVLA back down on their initial decision.

So Mr Clarke gets to keep the private registration plate he bought. A very eye-catching one!

This is the thread is should be on, though:

Yep - handed out free to some lucky person by West Ham in 1964.

I wonder if you good people can help me? A friend had in the family for a good number of years - about 55 years I believe - the number AT 4. He's wondering if it has disappeared or if it still exists.

A proper oldie as well - issued by Hull in 1904.

This is a fantastic plate as SUS 1E.
Any normal person would still read that as Susie so why would you bother misspacing?
Why would you not? To any one who doesn't collect number plates they don't see the difference between XYZ 1E and XYZ1E. Nobody cares about a missing space.

Certainly not the police.

Hell, you could put those plates through an MOT no problem with many testers.
That's true, but since anyone who can read would see SUS 1E as Susie anyway, what's the point?

No picture, but FOR 541E on an A3 on the A65 near Addingham this morning. Thought it was a demo at first, and would have trade plates, but was actually a legit plate. I think it was an estate agents car.

It may well have been mentioned on here already, but here's a pic of a tidy plate spotted in the M&S car park at The Meadows near Camberley...

(Before you lynch me, I didn't know where else to post this. It's legit so doesn't belong in the other thread).
