Out of interest, why is a plate like this desirable? I understand short plates with two letters as it can represent your initials, but i don't understand why people would pay MORE for a less descriptive numberplate.

Mainly as it will apply to a lot more people. 15 LYC for example would be an ideal reg for Lianne Yvonne Clark who was born on the 15th, whereas something like 77 R would be ideal for someone who's first name, surname or nickname begins with an R, born in 77. There would be a lot more combinations that the 77R would be relevant too. They command higher prices as they are easier to sell on (within reason!).

Guess these types of number plates are not to really going to 'wow' anyone as they mean nothing to anyone apart from the owner and their family and friends....

All opinions are valid of course, to me {and all 3 of mine are words because I like those) 21 D is desirable because it is minimal, is a part of history being an early example, 21 is a cool number and D a cool letter and initial. Also similar plates make good price so a good investment too. They don't come a lot better.

Irrespective of the car it's on, it's a bit sad (IMHO of course) to drive around saying 'I am the Master'.

Best of luck to the vendors of plates like these if people are vain enough to want to pay such ridiculous prices smile
