And thats how many many of our most valuable plates came into existence. The system was easily fooled and lots of never issued plates with two letters and a number 1 were created back then.

No, not quite right - these plates had all been in existence but had been scrapped. They were then 'resurrected'. Only two 'two letter forward' combinations were never issued - BF & WC. BF is now used by DVLA for re-registrations, with low numbers being sold.

I had a chat with the owner who confirmed this car is a replica (made 20 years ago)and he has owned it for 12 years.





The original is in the Science Museum in London.
