I saw NOG 1N on a Maserati just now outside my place. Drove off before I could take a photo.

Crappy plate thread this way >>>>>

I'm back after a few weeks away - what happened to the crappy thread? Last I saw it had been closed (again) after a rather heated debate between someone seeing nothing wrong with a bodged/mis-spaced/illegal plate and someone thinking that losing a 2mm space is an offence worthy of flogging....did the mods re-open it?

An unusual plate on RRS near derby yesterday. H1001. I'm assuming this is quite an old one given the format?
Indeed. one letter 'forward' and low-alphabet 'two letter forwards' are the earliest. This one issued by Middlesex; H #### series started in December 1903 and was finished in July 1912. Assume this would have been around 1905/6. If you see these the other way round (#### H) they are late 50s/early 60s or DVLA auction plates.

Question for the no.plate experts here.
Is it possible to find out what car your plate was originally assigned to (issued June 1960,Croydon council)?

Edited by Dinoboy on Thursday 9th June 21:03
Hi Dinoboy
I don't think anyone answered this (I've just plowed through a few weeks of posts). The answer is 'not easily'. I think (don't know for sure) that anything on the DVLA computer after 1974 MIGHT be obtainable under Freedom of Information; this is unlikely to be the case here, although it is certainly possible. Otherwise, the original paper record may have been retained, in which case it will be in the Public Records Office for Croydon - you'd need to go along and hunt for it.
Can anyone clarify re getting info from DVLA computers?

Looks to me like its W17 APD with a butchered 7 and a butchered P.

Most definitely the wrong thread!

Yeah it was re-opened once the mods had a chance to trim down a few pages worth of willy waving from posters on both sides.

I remember the early days of the first iteration of the thread when it was just about having a chuckle about what someone had created with the spacing, fonts, slogans, etc, rather than a slanging match over legalities which seems to be what happens every couple of months or so now frown

During the time the other thread was closed another user started a thread on a 3rd variance on the plates (in an attempt to take it back to amusement value only) for the plates that are still wrongly spaced, but still make you laugh anyway hehe

A while back Shmee put together the PlateRegistry.co.uk website that logged all 1x1's. A while later many noticed it wasn't getting updated, and then disappeared all together. I think many of us put 2 and 2 together and realised that Shmee had bigger fish to fry.

Shmee recently popped up in another thread and I asked if he would mind if I took over the website etc etc. He very kindly agreed to this and supplied me with what he had. Since then I have gone through the thread to pick up any updates. What I can tell you is that I now have all of these and will update them over time... all 56 of themyikes

Once these are done I'll then add the 17 new additions.

I've done the 1's.....

This is great news! I'm pleased to hear the site has made a comeback!

Incidentally, here's one from Ascot over the weekend (B2):

Fantastic!! Would be great to finish this with shots of all the survivors of the originally issued plates. Some will be lost forever, but as a quick check shows, A8 is out there on a Lexus and A9 on a Disco..
